Recently, there has been a large increase in the number of high-profile Twitter accounts being hacked into. Such examples include the AP Twitter account, MTV Twitter account and many more. Many are due to insecure passwords; thus, Twitter has added the option for users to add an extra level of sign in security through two-factor authentication.

Login to your account and go to your account settings page. Go to the “Account security” section and click on “Require a verification code when I sign in.” Then, go through the screens to set it up. Twitter will subsequently email you a code each time you login to Twitter. If you don’t see it, try logging out and logging back in.

Below is a video from Twitter on how it works:

The acquisition includes hiring the talent behind Nine By Blue, including our very own Vanessa Fox, a Contributing Editor here and at Search Engine Land, as well as the Blueprint search analytics and diagnostics software. Blueprint will be integration into RKG’s technology suite.

As many of you know, Vanessa Fox worked at Google years ago, being credited with founding Google Webmaster Tools.

“We are thrilled to have Vanessa, Blueprint and the Nine By Blue team join RKG,” said George Gallate, CEO, RKG. “At RKG, we unashamedly see digital through the lens of search. By using data to understand customer intent, we make marketing smarter, particularly search and social, both to build brands and create customer fulfillment. Nine By Blue is a like-minded company that shares our values of smart people using smart technology, and we’re excited about what we can achieve together.”

Vanessa said:

“Beginning with my time at Google, I’ve been passionate about providing concrete education and actionable data to site owners everywhere to help them better connect with their customers through unpaid search,” Fox told us. Vanessa added “for me, this is a great culmination of the time I spent pre-Google in UX, usability, and education. I’m so excited about the opportunity to bring the educational and data-driven work I’ve been doing with Nine By Blue to a larger audience. I’m proud of what the Blueprint developers have built, but this is just the beginning. So many possibilities exist for better actionable data and metrics that truly transform marketing and put SEO in the forefront of marketing and product development.”

Two years ago, RKG also acquired another online marketing agency, AudetteMedia.

The growth of YouTube has been significant over these short eight years. Now, every minute, over a 100 hours of video are uploaded.

Google acquired YouTube back on October 9, 2006 for $1.65 billion. Back then, that was the largest acquisition Google ever made. Since then, Google has only made two acquisitions larger than that purchase price: DoubleClick for $3.1 billion in 2007 and Motorola for $12.5 billion in 2011.

YouTube is one of the most searched properties, a top video consumption site and has made people into stars.

Happy Birthday YouTube!

Kara Swisher from AllThingsD said the deal was a “foregone conclusion and was an unanimous vote” by Yahoo’s board. They plan to announce the deal tomorrow, Monday, morning.

This will be Marissa Mayer’s largest acquisition as the CEO of Yahoo. It appears Tumblr will remain as a standalone brand, similar to the Flickr brand.

The Wall Street Journal adds that it is not clear if the Tumblr board has approved the deal as of yet.

Tumblr was founded in 2007 as a microblogging platform and social networking website by David Karp and Marco Arment.

What’s the biggest obstacle to effective content marketing? Surveys consistently reveal that enterprises — large and small — feel that creating enough content is the biggest problem.
Last night, some users who were conducting searches on YouTube were seeing a red banner at the top of the search results that said they were part of an “experiment.” What the experiment was and what YouTube was testing were unclear. Truth is it seems like there was no experiment, that the banner was a display bug with YouTube’s search interface.

The banner read:

Experiment: There may be confidential content in your search results. Please do not share outside Google.

This looks like what Google employees would see, as a reminder for them to not take screen shots and post them on Google+ or other social networks. It seems, if I had to guess, that Google accidentally showed this reminder to non-Google employees.

Google’s YouTube account tweeted last night:

Seeing a weird banner in your search results? No worries – fix in the works. Nothing juicy to see here!

The image above was provided by @Stu_Draper, and as you can see, there doesn’t seem to be anything experimental about the interface or search results.

If you’re a retailer or an agency serving retailers, mobile is arguably now your most critical channel. Less than two days into my Google Glass ownership and I’m already getting a software update. As Phandroid first reported, the Google Glass software is getting the “XE5″ update — XE stands for “Explorer edition” — and I’ll be able to check it out as soon as I get a chance to plug the device [...]

WordPress continues to gain in popularity among top blog publishers. The blogging platform’s market share rose to 52 percent, up from 48 percent last year, according to Royal Pingdom, which uses the Technorati Top 100 blogs list for its annual study. Is Google simply trying to create a better user experience on the iPhone and iPad or is it trying to “colonize” iOS with its apps? It all depends on your point of view — though, it’s probably a bit of both. When the new Gmail app for iOS was released May 6, immediately, inflammatory headlines [...]

I hadn’t seen my old high school pal in about 20 years. As we sat at a bar overlooking Grand Central Station in New York, he told me that he, too, was in social media — something involving sentiment analysis. “Oh, sure,” I said, “many social media tools use sentiment analysis — and it’s always a big [...]

Testing should be at the core of your email marketing program. Not only does it help you understand the impact you’re making, but it gives you a much fuller understanding about your customers’ behavior and preferences. With an open mind and help from a Google staffer showing me how the device works, it was pretty easy to see some compelling use cases within the first hour that I was a Google Glass owner. On the heels of announcing record level financial results and member engagement numbers for the first quarter of 2013, Linkedin is celebrating their 10th anniversary with more than 3,700 employees and 225 million members worldwide. Started in May of 2003 by Reid Hoffman, Allen Blue, Konstantin Guericke, Eric Ly and Jean-Luc Vaillant, the founders initially [...]

YouTube could launch subscription-based channels as early as this week, according to The Financial Times. The subscription model will give Google’s video sharing site a new revenue stream and support premium video content production. The subscription-based channels, first reported on back in January, will compete with other online premium subscription services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. [...]

The European Commission has made a preliminary determination that Google’s Motorola Mobility unit “abused its dominant position” under EU antitrust rules in seeking to obtain and enforce an injunction against Apple in Germany. At the center of the dispute is Motorola’s claimed misuse of ”standards essential patents” in mobile patent litigation against Apple. Google’s antitrust settlement with the [...]
