Despite assurances to the contrary, Google told the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) today that it still has some of the WiFi payload data that it's Street View cars collected in 2010. That data may include personal information such as usernames, passwords and email addresses that Google collected via unsecured WiFi networks. Today Google Analytics announced that its tracking code will now enable AdWords customers to create remarketing lists based on certain audiences or users that show interest in specific products. This means that instead of adding the remarketing tag, websites that use Google Analytics can use their code. A new Facebook plug-in has been revealed, the "recommendations bar."  The bar can be installed on websites and will help match visitors with other content they may enjoy on the site.  User data (likes & shares) are utilized in order to provide visitors with the best possible recommendations. Instagram, the social photo-sharing site that Facebook bought earlier this year for about $1 billion, says that it's now crossed the 80-million-user level. Facebook's Q2 revenues are out. In the run up to the earnings announcement there was critical speculation about the company's prospects. In terms of top-line revenues, Facebook beat analyst consensus estimates. Quarterly revenues were $1.184 billion vs. $895 million last year. For the second time in about a month, Twitter is currently experiencing a prolonged outage. As best we can tell, the outage began around 11:30 am ET. Twitter posted earlier that its "engineers are currently working to resolve the issue," but offered no details about what has caused the problem. Flickr co-founder Caterina Fake's new location-based startup Pinwheel, which is still in private beta, is probably going to be forced to change its name. Measurement firm comScore today released some new survey data that show an increasing percentage of US feature phone owners are making the switch to smartphones when replacing their devices. As they do they overwhelmingly favor Android, followed by the iPhone and then Windows Phones. Just over 61 percent of first-time smartphone buyers opted for an Android phone compared with 25 percent who bought an iPhone.
