Google AdSense Adds New Half Page Ad Unit Sized 300×600

google-adsense-logo Google announced the addition of a new ad unit, their largest ad unit to date, sized at 300x600 pixels. The new ad unit is commonly referred to as a half page unit, which Google is calling "brand friendly" ad units. Google said this ad size is one of the "top requests from publishers" last year. Google's display ad study show that this ad unit is one of the fastest growing sizes by impressions. When publishers first place these ad units on their sites, you will notice a "large number of text ads in these placements," Google said. But over time Google will fill those ad spots with " [...]

Facebook Test Lets Users Share On The Go With A Mobile Web Share Button

facebook-share-featured It quite surprising that mobile Facebook users haven't been able to share articles on mobile devices. Share however hasn't been available for mobile devices ... until today: Now mobile web users can quickly use the share button for posts - whether from profiles or pages. Report: Only 7 Percent Of Retailers Have Tablet-Friendly Sites

iPad Mini The evidence is mounting that tablets will be more important to "etailers" than PCs in the very near future. Tablet users are more affluent than traditional PC users on average and they buy more. Apple has sold more than 100 million iPads, while Amazon and Google have sold millions of their own 7-inch tablets. After the wrapping paper is all recycled this holiday season we could very well see a user population of 75 million tablets in the US. Tablets see much more actual conversion volume than smartphones, which are primarily used for research (conversions happen later "online" or in sto [...]

Five Things Marketers Should Know About Apple Passbook

apple-passbook-featured Unless you've been hiding under a rock during the last couple months, you know that Apple announced the new iPhone 5 back on September 12, 2012. On this date, Apple also rolled out its latest mobile operating system, iOS 6, which came chock full of new features like enhanced Siri, new 3D maps and deeper integration with social networks Twitter and Facebook. Arguably, the most important new feature to arrive on iOS 6 was something called Passbook, which allows marketers to provide coupons, tickets, loyalty cards and more, all in one place on the iPhone or iPad. A Twitter Relationship Management Tool

As a bona fide Internet nerd, I dream about some odd things. At the top of my list is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system that spans all social media. If you call over to Zappos after ordering your newest pair of beach shoes, the person answering the phone will be able to pull up your whole history with the company and provide you with their extra awesome customer service. To do that, Zappos, like most companies, uses a CRM system. Companies need to have something like that for social media, too. Wouldn't it be great to be able to easily see not only who makes mention of or [...]

Google Providing Authorship Analytics To Google+ Users

google-plus-analytics-featured Don't expect the buzz around Google+ and authorship to be fading anytime soon. Geekbeat.tv found an interesting option that some Google+ users (who've enabled authorship on articles) have found, Authorship Analytics. It shows traffic to pages where you are identified as the author. This appears to be rolling out for select users and appears in the lower right side of any Google+ profile page: When clicked on, users are delivered to an analytics page located directly within Google+ that show search traffic for user content. The report displays the overall impressions derived from a u [...]

Why Sending Receipts Via Email Is A Good Idea

I recently read an article about advances in the technology associated with printed receipts, their benefit as a transactional record, and the relative limits of moving to a hand-held transactional device. What that piece missed, however, was the huge value to retailers of emailing a receipt to customers who have made an in-store purchase.  There are many benefits to this triggered email, which, up until now, has not been widely embraced during the in-store checkout experience. 1. Acquisition If a customer chooses to receive their receipt via an email, your brand gains the opportunity to [...]

Facebook Ranked Comment Test Lets The Commenting Cream Rise To The Top

FacebookComments According to a Mashable report, Facebook is now testing a ranking system for displaying comments on fan pages. The change will allow the most engaging comments to show higher up for a post. This is a logical test that social sites like Reddit have implemented for years and what Facebook currently allows with comments for websites. It's being reported that rankings will take Likes, responses and hides into account for display. Again, this is quite similar to the current Comment plugin for site that states: Social Relevance: Comments Box uses social signals to surface the highest qualit [...]

Two Helpful Add-Ons For Measuring Video Campaign Success

Even with the lean-back nature of online video, it can be a great channel for branding a product or service in the minds of relevant video viewers. But, marketers typically have both branding and direct response goals. Online video can achieve both – compelling viewers to lean-forward and engage. In today’s digital video landscape we have a few ancillary products that can help measure how consumers are engaging with an advertisement. Traditionally, we have completion rates and clicks. The inverse relationship of those two actions often makes it difficult to deduce what a consumer [...]

The ABE Approach To Content Marketing

Twenty years ago, Alec Baldwin delivered one of the most powerful scenes in movie history when he told Jack Lemmon to “Put... that coffee... down!” and went on to explain why coffee was only for closers (and a whole lot more). If you haven’t seen Glengarry Glenn Ross, Alec Baldwin’s scene (which was written especially for the film by playwright David Mamet), or one of the countless parodies it inspired, take a minute to watch it now and come back. I’ll wait. The central theme of Baldwin’s pep talk was Always Be Closing (ABC). Close the sale no matter what. Nothing matters e [...]

Are ‘Hot’ Google+ Posts More Targeted Since They’re Also ‘Recommended?’

Hot-Recommended In April, Google+ launched the popular feature "Hot On Google+" that allowed users to see popular content from around the community. Late last month, the "hot" articles began to display as "Hot And Recommended." "What's Hot and Recommended" could be a valuable tool if leveraged properly. A user' +1's, +'s and share footprint should provide a solid base for not only Hot and Recommended posts, but also on other Google properties like Google News and YouTube. However, we simply haven't seen a noticeable change in the overall quality & targeting of the content.  It still appe [...]
