Creating A Measurement Plan For Content Marketing: 3 Key Considerations

As more budget flows toward content marketing (12% of budgets on average according to a 2012 study by Ad Age), inevitable questions have arisen about its value and how to measure impact. google-plus-hot-flames-featured Google+ has passed Twitter and is now the second-biggest social platform worldwide with 343 million active users. That's according to a recent report that, frankly, has some confusing claims and stats. The data is from GlobalWebIndex, a site/service that I can't claim to have ever heard of before. The company says it does 130,000 Internet usage "interviews" in 31 international markets -- covering about 90 percent of the global Internet-using population. We reached out for clarification about the data and how it's collected earlier today, but the company has yet to reply. As for the da [...]

Europe And US Do Battle Over Privacy Rules That Will Govern The Internet

google-chrome-privacy-featured Even as US lawmakers propose new digital privacy protections for consumers, the US looks like a libertarian fantasyland and regulation-free zone compared with Europe in the minds of tech companies. European regulators and governments are seeking to enact sweeping privacy rules that would place enormous compliance burdens on US-based Internet companies. As a result, the US government is standing beside Internet companies such as Facebook, Google, Twitter and eBay, lobbying European regulators to dilute or weaken the proposed rules. The New York Times sums up what could be required of Interne [...]

The statistics in this report are fairly consistent with Twitter's first transparency report last summer. The U.S. is still the biggest source of government information requests with 81 percent of all requests in the second half of 2012. (That figure was 80 percent for the first half of the year.) Overall, requests in the se [...]

Since launch in 2010, Twitter has scaled up ad revenue with nearly 100% growth year after year. A Twitter API would be a boon for big brands and firms, as custom advertising systems can be created with more advanced reporting, analytics and targeting. This API release was hinted at back in September when Twitter released the new API 1.1. In the initial API 1.1 terms, it was st [...]

Size Matters In Real-Time Bidding — But How You Use it Matters Most

There are literally thousands of online publishers seeking to monetize the “unique” traffic visiting their websites. Concurrently, there is a thirsty crop of data brokers lining up to assist publishers in connecting their data with the ever-growing advertising demand online. We live in an era of increasing concern about privacy, which makes sense, given there is simply more non-personally identifiable information (non-PII) than ever before on virtually every consumer online -- regardless of device, age, race or geography. This non-PII information includes where you browse, what you [...]

Google+ Rolls Out A New Page Manager Dashboard

google-plus-logo-tilt As Google Plus Daily first reported, Google+ has launched a new Page manager dashboard with a new look, added functionality and some very basic stats about the Pages you manage. The old dashboard was spartan and borderline useless. It only displayed the different Pages you managed with a blue "Switch to this page" button for each -- the same button you'd see if you skipped the dashboard and went directly to the Page itself The new dashboard still shows all your Pages and links to "Switch to this page," but also includes: basic stats like how many followers each page has and when the [...]

Facebook Tries To Explain Why It Cut Vine’s, Others’ API Access

facebook-unlike-featured Don't use our platform to copy what we do without permission. That seems to be the core issue in a Platform Policy change that Facebook announced on its developer blog about an hour ago. The change, according to Justin Osofsky, Facebook's Director Platform Partnerships, means that the "vast majority" of developers should "keep doing what you're doing." But, in light of Facebook's decision to cut API access to Vine and Voxer within the past week, Osofsky offered this clarification of Facebook's policies: For a much smaller number of apps that are using Facebook to either replicate our fu [...]

Screw The Mission Statement, Facebook Cuts Connections With Twitter’s Vine, Yandex & Voxer

facebook-logo-square Brands and individuals that are testing out Twitter's new video toy, Vine, are learning the hard way that it doesn't play well with Facebook. To Pay Or Not To Pay, That Is The Power Shopping Question

Much hype, and many public relations wars, has been waged over the last couple of months centering on the physical dynamics of paying your way into shopping results. Most of the attention has been focused on Google, and as often happens in the search community, Big G’s motives have been dissected, reviewed and morally judged, before short-attention-spans took the angry masses off to gripe about something else. The much larger debate, the industry’s familiar old cold sore, is the “pay or no pay” argument. Every time there’s a case where a free product suddenly becomes a pay-for-pla [...]
