Amazon Beats Combined Online Sales Of Major US Retailers

amazon-featured The Wall Street Journal reports that the US Securities & Exchange Commission recently asked major traditional retailers to break out specific figures regarding their online sales, rather than simply reporting percentage growth rates. It turns out those actual numbers, combined, don't equal their nemesis Amazon. Amazon's 2012 revenues were $61.1 billion. However Amazon's margins are less than razor thin. Though many of the retailers mentioned in the WSJ article now see a healthy percentage of annual sales from the Internet, some, like Target, underperform the market. Target disclosed [...]

Page Speed Matters! Why You Need to Improve Yours Today

Pizza! My three-year-old daughter loves it -- which is why the delivery guy knows exactly where our house is. But… if it takes too long to arrive, she'll quickly move on to something else more readily accessible. Speed clearly plays an important role in her user experience -- much as it does for the digital user experience. Why Page Speed Matters Given my e-commerce and conversion background, I have always been obsessed with the usability aspect of digital. I see user experience as Job #1. After all, what's the point of achieving top search rankings if you don't provide a great user experi [...]

Smartphones Driving Nearly Twice The Commerce Of Tablets — comScore

smartphones Every report I've seen comparing conversions on PCs, smartphones and tablets shows tablets as having much higher conversion rates than smartphones. Part of the reason is that people rarely complete transactions on their smartphones -- they tend to buy later on PCs or tablets or offline. That's why it's both interesting and curious that comScore has data showing the percentage of e-commerce transactions happening on smartphones being almost 2X of tablets. However, as a percentage of the total value of e-commerce in the US mobile (smartphones + tablets) still constitutes less than 10 percent. [...]
