Facebook Users Will Soon Have More Control Over The Ads It Displays

Facebook-Like Facebook announced it is making changes to the ads algorithm to improve the relevancy of ads in users' news feeds. The algorithm determines what ads to show Facebook users. What's changing? The company says it is putting greater emphasis on feedback from users about the ads they see. When users report or hide ads, they'll be less likely to see similar ads in their news feeds. This should give users more control over the types of ads that show up in their news feeds and mean that the ads are more relevant to their interests. As an example, if a user always hides ads for electronics, Faceb [...]

Budgeting For Email Marketing: How To Invest In The “Killer App”

Holiday Emails Last week at the ExactTarget Connections Conference, I had that the opportunity to meet Forrester analyst Shar vanBoskirk. Like most in our industry, I was interested in her point of view on a question I often ponder, so I approached after her presentation and asked for it: “If email consistently has the highest conversion rate of all channels (search, social, etc.) why does it consistently receive the least amount of budget?” We see this with our clients, and it's something that Forrester Research reported on in their US Interactive Marketing Forecast, 2011 to 2016 that was recently fea [...]

Remarketing For Search: Approaching The Promise Of Digital Marketing

Day Parts help to identify when ads are most effectively served. Good fishermen know where the fish are… so why is it that good marketers don't always know where the best consumers are? Despite massive advancements in targeting, tracking and user insights, John Wannamaker's adage -- "Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half" -- may still be true. Even in the hyper-targeted and over-analyzed online marketing space, there are still many unknowns, but there's light at the end of the tunnel -- and it's bright! The best advertising is relevant, in the moment, and served to an individual who has interest in a [...]

Marketing Land's Danny Sullivan wrote about Google's move to encrypt all non-paid searches, explaining, "The change makes it very likely that in th [...]
