Today the official Twitter apps received an upgrade with additional features that make the service more powerful. Both iOS and Android users will now have the ability to send photos directly to users in a direct message and can also quickly scan back and forth between timelines with the swipe of a finger.

Direct Message Photos

Users can now append a photo with a DM by clicking the image icon on the left of the message input box. In addition to the new message type, Twitter is added a new message tab in the navigation bar that makes accessing DMs even easier. This feature works on the Twitter.com web version as well.

Swipe to Discover

Mobile users can now swipe horizontally to switch between timelines. Simply drag your finger across the screen and you’ll move from Home to Discover to Activity. This incrementally speeds up the user experience while looking quite slick as well.

Download the new Twitter app today for Android or  iPhone or see the official blog post.
