Facebook Now Allows Users To Edit Comments

Have no fear, the next time you make an errant comment on Facebook you won’t have to delete it forever.  Facebook rolled out comment editing along with a history of edits.  Rival Google+ has had this popular functionality since its inception, something that appears to be used with regularity.

Editing a Facebook comment is simple, but currently must be performed on the web version — no support for mobile or webiste comment widgets exists.  A nice feature with the comment editing system is that a comment history will also accompany all comments so the initial context can still be found.

In order to edit a comment, simply find the comment in question:

Hover over the comment so that the Edit/Delete icon will show up:

Then just edit your comment and save.  You will then see “Edited” next to the timestamp.  In this example I went back and added the pound symbol in front of the hashtag that I was talking about:

To see the full comment history, click on that “Edited” button and the comment history box will pop up:

The comment changes are rolling out this week, look for the functionality in your News feed soon!

This is indeed a useful feature. But what’s the point in
showing the comments history, defeats the purpose of the edit option. For ex:I have posted an errant comment and want to edit it before anyone could read
it, what’s the point in editing, when users can still view the previous one. I’m
left with the only option i.e deleting.
