this is great news. I was previously working for a brand that spent an outstanding amount of funds from the marketing budget to convince potential prospects and partners that they were ahead of the industry and worth investing in. Happy to say they screwed up and purchased LIKE’s from outside of the country “being cheap” without taking into consideration that their product was not available outside of the US. Really sad that people behind brands are trying to sprint in a field that should be taken at a marathon pace. Social Business is about Engagement, building trust & becoming part of the conversation while setting yourself aside as the influencer in your industry or service. Cant wait for this to take place because this is long over dew. Thanks a bunch for the heads up Sullivan hope all is more than well back home.

I suppose this type of spam will follow anything anywhere. There are always people willing to provide worthless quality…I just hope that Facebook actually cracks down on it for real…

I wrote about these type of ‘buy-your-likes’ companies a few months back at http://kwaikwai.wordpress.com/2012/03/20/the-value-of-facebook/

I have to see it before I believe it. I am wondering what signals Facebook wants to use for this. You need some experience in identifying and tackling click spam in order to address this issue. I haven’t really heard Facebook on successfully dealing with click spam yet. I wish them good luck with this challenge

I can’t help but see a parallel here between what FB is doing and what a
lot of us hope Amazon will do about the paid-reviews scandal that has
come to light there: http://ow.ly/do9F8 http://ow.ly/do9H8

I suspect this is just the beginning, and that Likes incentivised through competitions and similar give-aways (“Like us to enter” etc) will be targeted within the next 12 to 18 months. That’ll hit much more than 1% of Likes.

anyone else notice that “less then 1%” is the new buzz phrase for “its going to mess alot of people up and we will just do whatever the hell we want”
