The holidays were apparently very good to Google+. The search giant’s fledgling social networking site had its biggest traffic month to date, according to Experian Hitwise.

U.S. visits to Google+ topped 49 million in December, Hitwise says, and that’s a 55% increase over November. Here’s the Hitwise chart from earlier today:

What’s driving the traffic growth? It could be any number of things. There was the launch of Google+ Business Pages in early November that got a lot of attention. Google has also been very aggressive in integrating Google+ into other products like Gmail and YouTube. And then there were also those lengthy TV commercials that aired prominently around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
