The first holiday shopping ads have already hit TV. Once again, the season seems to be starting earlier than ever. But for online retailers, you can never prepare early enough. Are you ready? Here’s a preview of what holiday shoppers are looking for this year.

The folks at shopping search engine Pricegrabber have compiled the results of its Winter Holiday Shopping Survey into the infographic further below. But first, a summary of findings.

Customer Service, Free Shipping Key To Loyalty, Motivation

Conducted last month, involving nearly 3,000 online shopping consumers in the US, the survey found that 69% of customers will return to stores they used last year. Why? Good customer service tops the list with 70% citing it, followed by free shipping (62%), then good sales and discounts (58%). How’s your customer service?

Free shipping is also the top factor, cited by 76%, for entice shoppers to purchase online this year. Do you offer it? Another 72% said they want price cuts.

Most Seek Deals Right After Thanksgiving

When do most shoppers plan to hunt down deals? Most say “After Thanksgiving” generally — 33% — with the next highest group at 28% being specific, the day after Thanksgiving, or “Black Friday.”

Gift Cards Are Big

The product most sought after? Forget that hard-to-get “hot” item. Nearly half of shoppers surveyed just want to get a gift card. Do you offer those?
