Infographic: All About How People Share On Pinterest

Pinterest is one of the hot social media sites to emerge over the past year or so. Need a stat rundown on who uses it (hint: moms are big), how they use it (think iPads), when and what they share? The folks at ShareThis have compiled an infographic based on Pinterest interactions they see through the ShareThis network:

As you can see, ShareThis says iPads are used more than any other device for interacting with Pinterest, responsible for nearly half the Pinterest shares it sees.

Food leads the percentage of shares at 18%, followed by parenting items at 16% and fashion at 10%.

Unlike Facebook and Twitter, the peak sharing time for Pinterest is at night. And mothers are seens as big Pinterest sharers, making up nearly 30% of shares.

I just noticed that, too. Albeit, interesting story about a bear in Pasadena :)

Either I’m reading this wrong, or that second stat should be reworded from:

“iPads are the Pinterest user’s device of choice”

    to:

“Pinterest is the sharing platform of choice for iPad users.”

Very interesting stats, but I’m skeptical about the claim that people share more via Facebook and Twitter than via email. Alexis Madrigal has a post over on The Atlantic (http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/10/dark-social-we-have-the-whole-history-of-the-web-wrong/263523/) that argues that we massively underestimate the amount of traffic sent via email and links put in IM messages. Mind sharing the data source for the infographic? Did it come directly from Pinterest, or by way of ShareThis?
