That's up 6 percent from a year ago. The iPad sold better than expected, with 26 million units vs. an analyst estimate of roughly 24 or 25 million. Report: Marketing Emails Opened On Mobile Devices Jumped 61% To 65% In Q4 2013

The company's US Consumer Device Preference Report for Q4 2013 claims 65 percent of marketing emails were opened on mobile devices during the last quarter of 2013, up from 61 percent during third quarter. Opera: Android Has Reach But iPhones Drive More Revenue

Nielsen: All Top Brands Lost Web Users To Mobile In 2013

The period measured was January through the end of October. The ranking of the top sites was more or less the same as we've seen in other data. Pew: 50 Percent In US Now Own Tablet Or E-Reader

New iPad Mini This morning, the Pew Research Center released new data about tablet and e-reader ownership among US adults. Previously, the organization said that 43 percent of Americans (over 16) owned either a tablet or e-reader (or both). After the holiday, that number has jumped to 50 percent of all American adults (18 and over). The Pew survey, which also explores e-reading habits, specifically reports that "42 percent of adults now own tablet computers, up from 34 percent in September." New Brand Dependence Index Finds Consumers “Can’t Live Without” Samsung Electronics [Report]

Branding Brand management firm UTA teamed up with technology firm uSamp to launch a new brand index report at this week's CES Conference in Las Vegas . Apple: People Spent $10 Billion On Apps In 2013

Apple app store logo Apps have turned into a nice little business for Apple. This morning the company issued a press release stating that app store users spent more than $10 billion on apps and digital content for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad in 2013. Under its 70/30 rule, Apple would have kept roughly $3 billion of that revenue. In the month of December alone the company said that users spent more than $1 billion and downloaded three billion apps. Mobile Market: Windows Phone Flat, Pandora Now #2 App After Facebook

Report: Apple Gains Smartphone Share But The iPad Slips

Based on "tens of millions of smartphone and tablet online ad impressions from the Chitika network," the study looked at North American internet traffic from December 20 to December 29, 2013. Apple: Games, Social And Video Dominate Top Apps Lists

Apple Best of 2013 Like everyone else Apple has released its year-end top lists. Below are the top iOS apps, including top free and top paid apps for both the iPhone and iPad. The lists are a mix of "incumbents" and "insurgents." Pandora remains in the top 10 (12 on the iPad list) and YouTube was number two on both free lists. The paid lists were all about games. Apple Building Mobile Exchange, Shifting Focus To Radio

This is apparently at the direction of Apple's Eddy Cue who is now in charge of software, including Maps and Siri. Apple's is reportedly concentrating on iTunes Radio advertising. AdWeek says that "In a staff meeting before the holidays, Cue indicated that iTunes Radio is the top priority, and app ads are not." Study: iOS Remains Less Fragmented Than Android

iOS share by version Data from Google and Chitika show that, despite improvements, the Android ecosystem is still more fragmented than iOS. Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and its younger sibling, KitKat, combine for just under 56 percent of all Android devices in the market. However KitKit is on just 1.1 percent of Android devices. Facebook No. 1 Mobile App Of 2013 But Google Has 5 Of Top 10

By comparison comScore says the figure is 62 percent. Regardless it means there are now more than 150 million smartphone users in the US.
