AT&T Beefs Up ‘It Can Wait’ Campaign With #X Hashtag Promotion

AT_T__X_-_YouTube Likely, you've seen AT&T's "It Can Wait" texting and driving campaign. Today, working with MRY, AT&T has relaunched its "It Can Wait" website and is giving heavy emphasis to #X, the symbol it hopes becomes the standard for telling people you are driving and can't text right now. The site houses a #X explanatory video, an invitation to make a pledge not to text and drive which can be shared to Twitter and Facebook (over 5 million have done so), tips and tools in the form of an Android app and iOS instruction on how to easily use #X and a gallery of social media shares related to th [...]

Google Glass App Landscape (Finally) Showing Signs Of Growth

google-glass-io-1920 It has a long, long way to go to rival app stores like those for Android and iOS (and I doubt it'll ever rival their size, actually), but the Google Glass app landscape is finally starting to show signs of life. There are hundreds of apps available for Glass, but the majority of them haven't passed through Google's review process and reached the official Glassware directory. A lot of those "unofficial" apps are being promoted by their developers and users in various online Glass-related forums and communities, and many are very popular even without Google's formal approval and inclusion i [...]

Roost Enables Web Push Notifications, Coming Soon To Mobile Browsers

roost A company called Roost has developed publisher push notifications for PC web browsers. This offers a potential new channel to deliver content or marketing messages via the browser (which can complement or substitute for email). But what's even more interesting is the prospect of extending this to mobile web browsers. Currently mobile users can only receive notifications if they have an app installed. Roost's capability means that publishers and marketers could send notifications to users who haven't installed their apps. This would be significant in general but especially for verticals [...]

Zillow Buys Rival Trulia For $3.5 Billion In Stock

Zillow The rumor that real estate site Zillow was buying its chief rival Trulia surfaced last week in a Bloomberg report. This morning it was confirmed. Zillow and Trulia's boards had approved a $3.5 billion stock-for-stock transaction. Both companies are public. The deal will create a dominant digital real estate company in the U.S. market. The closest rival will be Realtor.com, operated by the National Association Of Realtors. Traffic data provided by the companies showed Zillow with 83 million unique users in June, across platforms. Trulia had 54 million uniques. Both companies have [...]

Turn Your Blog Into A Learning Center To Win At Content Marketing

Turn your blog into a learning center - Wholefoods With the rise of business-blogging success in content marketing, it seems like every company has hopped on the bandwagon, which could be a great thing for audiences everywhere. Unfortunately, many companies are still missing the mark by using their blog as an extension of their product pages – just another place to talk about themselves. The key to driving content marketing success through blogging is by turning your blog into a learning center instead of using it as a depository for additional information about purchasing your products or services. Much of content marketing is about b [...]

The Retargeting Trap: How Targeting Conversions Hurts ROI

display-ad-featured Data are wonderful things. Properly applied, data can provide insights into where to trim budget and where to increase it. Data will indicate what's working versus what's not, what's a signal versus what's an outlier. And, data help to determine the proper media mix for the overall campaign strategy. Data-driven, performance-based advertisers reviewing their online display metrics often find it easy to justify spend on retargeting. After all, it's very simple to see that retargeting is a big winner when it comes to display. But beware! There's a trap in that data. It's easy to increa [...]

Cool Janrain Tool Shows The Data You Expose When You Log In Socially

janrain-social-main We all do it, likely without much thought. We use our social media -- or other digital -- identities to log into multiple websites daily. It's quick, convenient and saves us the hassle of creating another username and password. But if you are concerned about privacy (and you should be), it's a good idea to stop every so often and dig into what data you are exposing with those social logins. Not so easy, you say? You don't want to wade through terms of service on a Friday afternoon? Fortunately, that's not necessary. Janrain, one of the leaders in the social login provider industry, has a [...]

Google “Pigeon” Local Search Algorithm Launches

maps-pigeon-600 Last night, Google pushed out a major local search algorithm update. The update has been pushed out to U.S. English based search results and seems to have had enough of a significant update that many SEOs, webmasters and local business owners have taken noticed. The update impacts both the organic local listings within Google Map Search and Google Web Search. We are naming this algorithm update the Pigeon update, for more on that, see our post over here. The algorithm is more tied into the traditional web search ranking signals, including search features from the knowledge graph, spe [...]

Bank’s ‘Gaming Wall’ At Stadium Milks World Cup Afterglow

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The World Cup may be over but BBVA Compass bank, which has the naming rights to the Houston stadium that's home to the MSL Houston Dynamo and the NWSL Houston Dash, is milking the sport's increased popularity for all it's worth, erecting an interactive game that lets players share their experiences via social media. Working with MVP Interactive, the bank put up a 60-square-foot wall consisting of nine 47" flat screen TVs as well as four cameras and a Microsoft Kinect motion sensor, inside the stadium concourse. BBVA is calling it the Interactive Gaming Wall. Anyone who feels they are [...]

Big Gap Between Awareness And Usage Of Digital Wallets

mobile-payment-wallet-featured Within the past week Google, PayPal and Amazon have all made moves in the "mobile wallet" arena. Amazon launched an Android-based mobile wallet app, focused on loyalty and gift cards. PayPal updated its iOS app to enable the addition of loyalty cards. Google updated its Wallet app to include the ability to add gift cards or send and receive money from friends. Apple is also reportedly in talks with credit card companies ahead of a potential mobile wallet launch this fall that would allow in-store payments. Apple currently offers this capability in Apple stores, through its Apple Store ap [...]

To Successfully Measure B2B Content Marketing, Get In The Friend Zone

shutterstock_80356969-friend-zone Although it’s almost universally agreed upon that content marketing is necessary, no one can seem to agree on the right metrics to measure its success. The majority of marketers seem to fall into one of two equally flawed camps. The first is the “we’ve heard content marketing is good so we’ll do a lot and call it brand awareness” category. Especially for B2B marketers, this can be a costly and inefficient path. Most B2B marketers only have a limited number of potential customers, so large-scale “brand awareness” is not only unnecessary, but will also never lead to revenue [...]

Facebook’s Ad Machine Keeps Rolling; Key Q2 Metrics For Marketers

facebook-target-aim-featured To no one's surprise, Facebook again crushed Wall Street expectations during its quarterly financial call yesterday, reporting revenue of $2.9 billion during the quarter the ended in June. In short there are no signs of a slowdown for Facebook, which eMarketer expects to capture nearly 8% of global digital ad revenue, and more than 22% of mobile ad revenue this year.
