Cool Janrain Tool Shows The Data You Expose When You Log In Socially

janrain-social-main We all do it, likely without much thought. We use our social media -- or other digital -- identities to log into multiple websites daily. It's quick, convenient and saves us the hassle of creating another username and password. But if you are concerned about privacy (and you should be), it's a good idea to stop every so often and dig into what data you are exposing with those social logins. Not so easy, you say? You don't want to wade through terms of service on a Friday afternoon? Fortunately, that's not necessary. Janrain, one of the leaders in the social login provider industry, has a [...]

LinkedIn Launches Direct Sponsored Content, Enables Testing With “Dark Posts”

linkedin-featured Today, LinkedIn launched a "dark" version of its Sponsored Updates ad product called Direct Sponsored Content. These new native-style ads don't get published to a company's LinkedIn page, so advertisers can customize and test ad messaging and creatives to targeted audiences. LinkedIn isn't the first social network to enable testing through posts that aren't published to a company or brand page. Facebook has offered "dark posts" for over a year now. Like Facebook's offering, LinkedIn Direct Sponsored Content ads gives companies the ability to target and test messaging without having to s [...]

Turtle Wax Mines Social Media Gold With #Reflectie Contest

turtle-wax There aren't many consumer products that inspire more adoration than cars. We love them, pamper them, polish them and show them off to our friends. There's a reason the 1975 lyrics by Queen's drummer Roger Taylor -- "I'm in love with my car, gotta feel for my automobile" -- tongue in cheek though they were, still ring true today. Except these days, instead of cruising Southern California's iconic Whittier Boulevard, car lovers are doing most of their parading on social media. That's one of the reasons Turtle Wax, which sells products that put a shine on America's auto fixation, has r [...]

How Spirit Airlines Embraced Brand Hatred And Won

Spirit Airlines Embrace The Hate Spirit Airlines is a brand people love to hate. Perhaps you've seen one of the many tweets trashing the brand for charging fees for just about everything. Many brands offer up bland, apologetic statements when they run afoul of people's expectations. But not Spirit Airlines. Spirit Airlines proudly stands behind its "cheap seats" approach to marketing and embraces it fully. Spirit airlines is the absolute WORST airline to fly with. How do you charge someone $50 for carry on luggage??? — Adaeze (@_Adaeze_) July 8, 2014 Speaking of embracing, a couple months ago, the airline reacted [...]

William Shatner Boldly Goes Into Facebook Mentions App For Celebrities, Calls It “Ill Conceived”

800px-William_Shatner_02_(7559659118) Actor William Shatner is exactly the type of celebrity Facebook is catering to with the launch of the Mentions app last week. Active, engaged and social media savvy, Shatner has a Facebook Page with nearly 800,000 likes. He even seems to run the page and his other outspoken social media efforts himself, unlike many celebs who hide behind publicists. So it's fitting that Shatner took Mentions for a test drive, and posted about his experience on his Tumblr today. And his conclusion? He was underwhelmed. Like many admins of verified celebrity Facebook Pages, Shatner was prompted to d [...]

Facebook Continues “Getting Started” Ads Series With Introduction Of Custom Audiences

Facebook-Bike Continuing its effort to demystify its self-serving advertising process, Facebook published a how-to post about its Custom Audience targeting feature today. The post, Facebook's second installment in its "Getting Started" series aimed at small businesses, describes how marketers can upload customer lists from existing phone or email contacts or data from a website or mobile app. From the post, which includes a very good video showing the drill: When you upload your contact list, Facebook hashes the information. That means we make the data unreadable, so no one — including Facebo [...]

Facebook Save — A New Read-It-Later Option For Facebook Posts & Pages

IntroducingSave2 Facebook tied up one of the loose ends in its mobile and web product today, announcing a bookmarking feature that allows users to save posts for later viewing. The new feature, called Save, is arriving fairly late in the read-it-later game, behind well developed services like Pocket and Instapaper that have grown popular with people looking to store their reading lists in one convenient place. Those services also cache stories to be read offline. Facebook's doesn't. But Facebook's Save does has something no similar product has: the enormous scale of Facebook's 1.28 billion active users. LEARN: Lucy The Movie’s Web Site Teaches You To Speed Read Scarlett Johansson-Style

lucy_movie Movie websites, more than any other type of marketing site, seem to span every point of the scale between horrifically lame and ingeniously brilliant. Far over on the ingeniously brilliant end of the scale is this promotional area within the Lucy web site, the new movie starring Scarlett Johansson movie, Lucy. Lucy is written and directed by Luc Besson and features Johansson as a drug mule who gains superhuman mental capabilities after taking a drug. The movie's promotional site keys in on that plot element by encouraging visitors to test their own brain power. But what's the drug that w [...]

Twitter's stock price, which was once as high as $73 a share, closed today at $36.87. In April, when Twitter reported monthly active u [...]
