Target By Operating System & Browser Type With New Facebook Advertising Behavior Types

facebook-f-logo-1920 It's pretty clear that Facebook is leading the way in digital ad targeting, and will for quite awhile. While Google is struggling with mobile and socially-driven demographic/interest targeting, Facebook keeps on releasing the hits. The newest release is key for those marketers looking to promote plugins/extensions or specific programs/apps by OS. One of the new attributes added in the behaviors section is the "Internet Browser Used." Of course this is crucial for the plugin/extension field, but could lead to other opportunities based off of the sophistication of a user's browser. For exampl [...]

That means we make the data unreadable, so no one — including Facebo [...]

Facebook Wants To Know If Posts In Your News Feed “Feel” Like Ads

facebook-ad-survey-span Facebook has set a very high bar for advertising on its network, pushing for ads that "delight" users as much as posts from your friends and family. Hitting that mark -- or at least approaching it -- is important for Facebook as it works to balance revenue generation with the need to make sure its users aren't flooded with advertising. That's why Facebook engineers are continually fiddling with the dials of the News Feed algorithm to make sure users are being served content that will keep them satisfied and coming back for more. Most of that tinkering happens under the hood, without users' [...]

Whoopsies: A System Mix-Up Sent The Wrong Facebook Ad Receipts & Data To Advertisers

oops-mistake-featured If you are a Facebook Advertiser that found yourself perplexed by your most recent ad receipt you can breathe a sigh of relief as the mix-up was likely the result of a system-wide issue. This issue delivered the wrong receipts and data to other advertisers that included the ad name, clicks, impressions and amounts causing much confusion. Thankfully, this receipt issue had no outcome on the actual ad delivery or billing for your account. This issue has been resolved now, and Facebook released the following on the topic: You may have received email receipts for advertising charges unrela [...]

New Global Facebook Ad Places ‘Missed Calls’ On The Behalf Of Users

Missed-Call While you may have the most recent Samsung or Google smartphone model to access the internet (and Facebook), you may be surprised to find that globally, you are in the minority. Worldwide, 7 out of every 10 people use simpler, feature phones when accessing the internet. This usage is mainly in high growth countries like India, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and Nigeria. In some of these locations (especially in India) the high cost of voice calls lead to users placing a call, quickly hanging up before the other end answered. Much like a pager, this format would allow for communicat [...]

A new ad prompt is showing up on the 'about' tabs of Facebook pages featuring a "Promote" button with a prompt that tells admins to "Get people you care about to visit your website. Improved Facebook Right Hand Ads Will Roll Out Next Week, Limited Availability Will Raise CPCs

Right-Hand-Facebook-Ads A few months ago, Facebook promised a revamped, larger ad size for those Right-Hand Column ads. Today, they've announced a launch date of "early next week" along with a warning of scarcity. Seeing that the ads take up more real estate on the screen, there will obviously be less space for ads. This means that advertisers will likely see an increase in their overall cost-per-clicks as the competition will be tighter. Facebook also touted the benefit of the new ad size on the overall click-through rates -- an issue that has plagued the right-hand ads for awhile now -- as they cited the lar [...]

Facebook Will Soon Leverage Your Non-Facebook Web & Mobile Activity In Advertiser Targeting

Facebook-Ads-Targeting Facebook Ads are about to become a much more lucrative commodity to marketers. Today's Ads changes not only helped users understand why they were seeing ads, but will also allow Advertisers to target users who've taken desktop and mobile actions off of Facebook itself.   This means that a user who has searched for running sneakers on the web (or on a mobile app) will have the ability to be targeted with Facebook ads. The combination of demographic options along with these off-site interactions will be targeting gold for advertisers. The exact example that Facebook give for this [...]

Why Facebook’s Organic Reach Throttle May Be Better for Brands Than They Think

Why Facebook's throttling organic reach might be good for brands. In this column, I will make a case that Facebook's reduction of organic reach for brand pages is a win-win for both Facebook and brands. I will also assert that while Facebook's throttling of reach is indeed an attempt to make more money, it's not in the way you think. But to get there, we must talk about traffic jams. Growing up in suburban New Jersey just outside New York City in the '70s, I was all too familiar with traffic jams. But it wasn't until I started driving myself that I realized how much of the congestion was caused by roads that simply couldn't handle the volume of automo [...]
