LEARN: Lucy The Movie’s Web Site Teaches You To Speed Read Scarlett Johansson-Style

lucy_movie Movie websites, more than any other type of marketing site, seem to span every point of the scale between horrifically lame and ingeniously brilliant. Far over on the ingeniously brilliant end of the scale is this promotional area within the Lucy web site, the new movie starring Scarlett Johansson movie, Lucy. Lucy is written and directed by Luc Besson and features Johansson as a drug mule who gains superhuman mental capabilities after taking a drug. The movie's promotional site keys in on that plot element by encouraging visitors to test their own brain power. But what's the drug that w [...]

Internet Provider ‘Downloads’ Christ The Redeemer Statue From Brazil to Italy Overnight

fastweb_christ_redeemer If you live in Brazil, you are not very happy this week following your crushing loss to Germany in the World Cup semi-final. But Italy is having a blast at your expense. Italian broadband provider Fastweb "downloaded" the Christ the Redeemer statue which overlooks Rio de Janeiro from Corcovado Hill and magically erected it in Piazza Dante in Naples, Italy. You know, as an example of Fastweb's super fast download speeds. The 20-meter-high statue is said to be an exact replica -- and exact weight -- of the original even though it's just half the height. Fastweb worked with M&C Saatch [...]

Restaurant Chain Asks Customers to Punk Competitors On Facebook And Instagram

behind_enemy_lines In a new marketing campaign, health-conscious restaurant chain Muscle Maker Grill, with help from Pittsburgh-based agency Brunner, is sending its clientele “Behind Enemy Lines." It's asking its customers to head over to any of its competitors’ fast food restaurants and engage in a little Facebook/Instagram foolery. Through July 28, Muscle Maker Grill fans, which the brand refers to as “Warriors,” are asked to be seen, and photographed, making the three-finger “Warrior W” at some less-healthy chain eatery. Those who do and post the image to Facebook or Instagram with the hash [...]

Robot Circumvents Non-Existent Instagram API To Poke Fun At Your Friends’ Overshares

ag_picnix Here's an interesting time-waster -- and it's not even for a brand! This campaign exists to allow Boston-based a&g Labs, the "innovation unit" of allen & gerritsen, to flex its muscles. And flex they did. If you're on Instagram, you know there are plenty of "those" people in your feed -- the ones who post constant selfies, snap every meal they eat, or document each time their cat rolls over. But short of unfollowing the guilty parties, there hasn't been a way to subtly hint that they're overdoing it. Until now. a&g Labs created Pic Nix, a program that allows people to [...]

Instagram Will Extend Ads To Canada, Australia & The UK

instagram-ads Instagram, continuing its measured approach to advertising, today announced that it will offer ads in three new markets -- Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia -- "later this year." The visual social network first started selling ads last November, limiting access to a small group of advertisers and emphasizing that it would work to avoid alienating its users. In today's announcement, Instagram continued to stress that cautious theme: As Instagram builds its business, we’ve put our community first every step of the way. And since introducing ads last November, we’ve worked w [...]

4 Tips To Instagram Your Business

Starbucks Instagram Featuring Real Photos By Real People I'll admit, I was late to hop on the Instagram bandwagon. I kept hearing it was all the rage with the youngsters these days and that Facebook was now considered "lame" (aka "the new MySpace"). Apparently, anyone under the age of 20 thinks Facebook is for us oldies (most likely because their moms are on it, and that is, like, so not cool). When I finally did join Instagram, I really liked the simplicity of it for users. One stream. One type of media to consume. Since I was a late adopter, it wasn't long before that one medium became two, as videos were introduced as Vine gained in popula [...]

Domino’s ‘Steady Pizza’ to Eliminate #deliveryfail

dominos_steady_pizza Many agencies are getting into the whole product development thing. The poster child for this, of course, is the Nike Fuel Band. But where Nike is helping people stay fit, Domino's Pizza is ensuring people will get their fill of, well, not-so-low calorie pizza. But in Brazil, the brand is going a step further and ensuring delivered pizza arrives as it should... and avoids inspiring the endless #deliveryfail posts on social media. Working with Artplan, the brand is out with Domino's Steady Pizza, a stabilization mechanism that keeps pizzas in balance while being delivered. Because nothing [...]

40th-Anniversary-Rubiks-Cube-Google-logo-2014 Ever the playful digital actor, Google joined Instagram today, and posted a video promo to the interactive Rubik's Cube on Google's global homepage. The Instagram post: "Today on our homepage we're celebrating the Rubik's Cube, which got us thinking—maybe we could do more squares? Hello Instagram!" The Meanwhile, and as good a commentary as any on the where the social media buzz is happening, Instagram's Google+ page hasn't been updated since June 1, 2012. Today is the 40th anniversary of the Rubik's Cube, and Google is celebrating with the logo/digital version of the mind-bendi [...]

Marketers Should Jump Into Instagram Before It’s Too Late

redbull It's hard to believe that a social network with 200 million active users could be overlooked by marketers. But that seems to be the case with Instagram. Compelling data released this week by Nate Elliott of Forrester Research shows that brand posts on Instagram receive remarkably higher engagement than posts on Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms. Studying three million user interactions on 2,500 posts from top brands during the first quarter, Forrester found that Instagram's per follower engagement rate was 4.21%. None of the rest -- Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Pintere [...]

Spring Cleaning: Why You Lost Instagram Followers

Instabig You might have noticed a few fewer followers on your Instagram account. It's not a glitch. Instagram has just stopped including inactive accounts in the follower/following totals, as stated in an update on Instagram apps (see screen grab below). The details, from an Instagram spokesperson: "After receiving feedback from members in the Instagram community, we recently fixed an issue that incorrectly included inactive accounts in follower/following lists. Instagram Surpasses 200 Million Users & 20 Billion Photos

It appears that Instagram and their hefty one billion dollar price tag was one of the most valuable Facebook acquisitions over the past two years. The photo sharing network has officially topped 200 million users who have posted 20 billion photos to date. While Facebook has taken some slack recently for their perception in the young teen market, Instagram has seen great growth in this space. More than 90% of Instagram users are under the the age of 35 and the network is rapidly growing.  Of the total 200 million users 50 million of them have joined over the past 6 months. For the of [...]

Instagram Experiment Dumps Foursquare for Location Tagging & Ties In Facebook Places Instead

Facebook Large It's now been nearly two years since Facebook purchased Instagram for a mere one billion dollars. Before the initial purchase (and in today's current iteration of the app) users input their location of an Instagram photo by tagging the location from information pulled in by Foursquare. According to Fast Company, Facebook is now testing the integration of Facebook Places rather than Foursquare in a test -- with the goal of bouncing Foursquare out of the app. Facebook has been making a big push in the local space and leveraging their own property (Instagram) to push Places only makes sense. N [...]

Today, it's reportedly moving into the big leagues with a new advertising deal inked with the agency holding giant Omnicom. Ad Age reports the deal is worth up to $100 million. The deal opens up ads to the brands working with agencies under the Omnicom umbrella such as Omnicom Media Group, DDB, BBDO and TBWA/Chiat/Day. "This doesn't change our advertising strategy moving forward -- people will continue to see a limited number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from select brands who alread [...]
