Facebook Starts Verifying Popular Pages & Profiles

facebook-verified-featured Following in the footsteps of both Twitter and Google+ (and Pinterest and other social networks), Facebook has started to verify a small number of Pages and personal profiles. There's currently no way for a Page owner or regular user to request verification. Facebook explains how it determines which profiles and Pages might be verified this way: Some well-known public figures and Pages with large followings (ex: celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) are verified by Facebook as having an authentic identity.... We verify profiles or Pages to help yo [...]

Missing Facebook Page Insights? Users Reporting Only Seeing Data Up To May 15

facebook-unlike-featured Facebook Page owners are reporting that they cannot view Insights data beyond May 15. When the first reports started appearing in a Facebook Community Forum thread, many users commented that their data was only viewable up to May 13. Since the initial complaints posted this past Tuesday, some users are now seeing Insights data up to May 15. The Next Web received confirmation from Facebook that they are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. A Facebook spokesperson told TNW, "Page Insights data from May 13 onward is currently delayed in Page Insights. This is a known issu [...]

This year's top winner was Oreo, taking home the Blue Award for the Oreo Daily Twist Campaign, a social program that marked Oreo's 100th Birthday Celebration by posting 100 pieces of social content referencing culturally-relevant events in 100 days. Unifying Facebook Page Content & Ad Copy

In my last column, I discussed strategies for testing content on your Facebook page. I also talked about how important it is, even when testing, to retain the character of your brand in all your content. Your Facebook page should have an identity to it, and you should strive to hold that identity constant. Part of holding this identity constant is making sure that your advertising is aligned with your Page content. That means keeping the style and character of your ads consistent with the status updates, photos and videos you’re posting on your Page. This principle is not just limited to [...]

‘Unpublished’ Facebook Post Ads Now Can Show In News Feed

Facebook logo Last year, Facebook announced a new feature titled "unpublished" posts that allowed brand managers to create posts that users wouldn't see ... unless they were being marketed to. With these post types, advertisers could then use the post for a sponsored listing within the right-hand sidebar. The new change allows for unpublished or "dark" posts to be much more visible to users. The new changes allow advertisers to do more than just show within the right hand "ad" side of the Facebook layout. The new ad types can now be pushed directly to the News Feed. This means that a Facebook page can no [...]

Facebook ‘Replies’ Brings Threaded Comments To Page Posts

facebook-comments-replies-featured Brands and marketers using Facebook Pages have a little more granular control over the conversations that their posts generate. The company has announced what it's calling "Replies" -- essentially, it's threaded commenting on Page posts. You could always reply to an individual comment by typing the user's name, but now there's a simple "Reply" link below each comment. Using that link creates threaded conversations that should be easier to follow from a customer service perspective. Facebook says "the most active and engaging conversations will be shown at the top of your posts," w [...]

Facebook Loosens Their Belt On Page Cover Image Guidelines

facebook-pages-featured When Facebook cover pages were launched last February, a slew of restrictions were bundled in, as well. Yesterday, Mari Smith reported that the majority of these guidelines quietly vanished. Some of the items that were revoked include: ii.  Price or purchase information, such as “40 percent off,” or, “Download it on socialmusic.com.” iii. Contact information such as a website address, email, mailing address, or information that should go in your page’s “about” section. iv. References to Facebook features or actions, such as like or share, or an arrow pointing from [...]

My, What A Big Profile Page & Cover Photo You Have, Google+

google-plus-featured Like many today, Google+ offered to upgrade the cover photo of my Google+ profile page to the new larger size, up to 2120x1192. Wow, would that even fit on my screen? And would anything even show other than the picture? Let's have some fun comparing profile pages at Google+, Facebook and Twitter. Oh Say What Can You See? For this test, I loaded up all the pages on my MacBook Pro Retina running at the default display resolution of 1440x900. I normally run the screen at a higher resolution, 1680x1050, giving up a tiny bit of quality for more screen real estate. But I wanted to stick with wh [...]

Study: Facebook Page Reach Rises 31 Percent (& More) After Insights Bug Fix

facebook-pages-logo Most Facebook Page Owners should be seeing substantial increases in the reported reach of their posts after Facebook announced and fixed a bug that affected its reach and impressions data in Page Insights. The folks at EdgeRank Checker studied about 1,000 Pages, comparing reach on posts that were published on two days: February 18th (before the bug announcement) and February 25th (after the announcement, and when Facebook told Page owners to start looking for improved data). The results are significant: the studied Pages saw a median Total Reach gain of 31 percent per fan, Organic Reach [...]

Facebook Confesses: Our Page Analytics Have Been Screwed Up, Fix In Progress

facebook-pages-logo Facebook is notifying Page owners that a bug in its analytics system has affected both the reach and impressions data that's been showing in Page Insights -- and it impacts both paid and organic numbers. Logged-in Page owners should see an alert at the top of their Page the next time they visit, which points to this explanation of the problem. The company says the bug impacts data related to Paid Reach, Organic Reach, Paid Impressions and Organic Impressions - along with other data points that rely on those numbers, such as Virality and Engagement Rate. Facebook emphasizes -- particularl [...]

How To Maximize Facebook’s Recent Link Upgrade

There are few things that instill more fear into social media marketers than being required to drive organic traffic to a site, campaign, or even a Facebook tab via Facebook. Facebook’s strong suit has never been click-throughs. As a result, social media marketers have done everything in their power to boost the presence of links. Shorten the link – done! Post photos and include the link in the status/caption – done! Use a call-to-action in caps, e.g., CLICK HERE – done! Doing one, two or all three has not yielded the sort of click-throughs that we see organically on Pinterest or [...]

The #Hashtag Bowl, Game Over: Twitter Mentioned In 50% Of Super Bowl Commercials, Facebook Only 8%, Google+ Shut Out

twitter-football-featured The Baltimore Ravens just beat the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl XLVII in a game that came down to the final seconds. But online, the social network showdown belonged to Twitter in a dominating win over Facebook, Google+ and all other social networks. According to my count, Twitter was mentioned in 26 of 52 national TV commercials -- that's 50 percent of the spots that aired during CBS' game coverage. Facebook was mentioned in only four of those commercials -- about eight percent. Google+, which is reportedly the No. 2 social network in the world, wasn't mentioned at all. YouTube [...]

facebook-pages-open-featured Facebook touted the success of its Promoted Posts product and the general success of ads in the News Feed during its earnings call today, in which it announced Q4 financial figures that beat analyst estimates. During the earnings call, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg announced that almost 500,000 Pages have tried Promoted Posts, the ad product that gives Page owners a chance to push a status update to more Facebook users. The costs depend on the amount of fans that a Page has, and can range from a few dollars to thousands of dollars. Page owners big and small have complained about the Promo [...]

facebook-like-featured Marketers that want a better sense of where a Facebook Page is most popular can do that now via a new tool from the social analytics firm, SocialBakers. SocialBakers' Facebook Page Statistics page now has a "Country" dropdown where the local ranks of Pages that SocialBakers monitors can be accessed. Facebook Nearby: A New Reason For Local Businesses To Get On Facebook

facebook-marketing-1 Not every local business has a Facebook page, but they all have a new reason to get one: Facebook has announced a new version of Facebook Nearby that turns it into a local business search engine. The Nearby tab on Facebook's iOS and Android apps will still show your friends' local activity, but it now also has the capability to offer search and discovery of all local businesses in the immediate area. With that addition, it puts a new face on Facebook's largely untapped local efforts. It also puts Facebook in more direct competition with the likes of Yelp, Foursquare and even Google+. The [...]

Facebook Makes Getting More Page Likes Easier For SMBs

Facebook-Like This morning Facebook rolled out a new, simpler way to get more Page likes. It's aimed chiefly though not exclusively at small businesses (SMBs) with fewer than 10,000 fans. That undoubtedly includes the overwhelming majority of SMBs with a presence on Facebook. The tools to create the simpler ad unit are in the Page admin console making it more accessible for SMBs who may be less familiar with Facebook's ad creation flow. Indeed, this is a kind of companion to Promoted Posts, which is a simplified way for SMBs to advertise on Facebook. All the content and daily budget are suggested. Her [...]
