Google Display Network Reporting Now Easily Available In Google Analytics

Google Display Network Reports in Google Analytics You may have noticed a new reporting section in the AdWords menu showing up on Google Analytics called Display Targeting. Apparently, this started rolling out a few weeks ago, and Google made the announcement official today. Andy Groller, Director of PPC at DragonSearch, provided the screenshot above and first pointed out the new reporting to me yesterday. As the name would have it, the Display Targeting area is where you'll find performance data on what happens after users click on ads running on the Google Display Network. You can drill into details on: Display Keywords Place [...]

The app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, though is optimized for the iPhone 5. It requires iOS 6.0 or later. An Android version of the Google Analytics app has been available for a couple of years now. It's easy to drill in to get more data by tapping on each card on the screen -- such as Real-Time or Audience in the s [...]

Removing The Fog From The Marketing Cloud

Another foggy day in the marketing technology cloud. Consider this: just 20 years ago, a retailer having a website was a huge novelty. Back then, the main purpose was to connect customers to service reps or find a store, and it took years before you could effectively showcase and optimize products like you can today with a marketing cloud. [caption id="attachment_90111" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Another foggy day in the marketing technology cloud.[/caption] Websites and e-commerce have evolved in the past 20 years largely due to third-party technologies. These technologies have helped optimize the overall brand experience, build cus [...]

How To Achieve Better Conversion Rates for Your Third Party Web Applications

kunikuni_piglet_shutterstock2014-07-07_0858 If you use a web-based, third party service for your career center, ticket registration or maybe webinar registrations, you are probably feeling some conversion pain. Even though these systems provide a (usually) less expensive option than building it yourself, they are usually quite ugly and have a subpar user experience.   We've become accustomed to third party services being this way because everybody has to use them, but there are options that might be worth looking into that could give you a little bit more control over those ugly systems. Their poor user experience may stem fro [...]

How Universal Analytics Is Different And What You Should Be Doing Now

logo-ga-upgrade If you've been using Google Analytics (GA) as your analytics solution over the past year or so, you've probably noticed that Google has been promoting its new analytics solution called "Google Universal Analytics" (UA). UA was in beta for well over a year. On April 2, 2014, it was moved from beta to production. While Google is treating this as the "re-imagining of Google Analytics," there are many new features and technologies behind it. How do the new features and technology behind UA impact what you're doing today? For everyone, there is no visible impact beyond the constantly chang [...]

Funnels are available at the device category level as shown in the screenshot below. Enhanced E-commerce is b [...]

Is It The Site, Or Is It The Analytics? Debugging Google Analytics

The Tag Assistant Extension in the Chrome Web Store As I've said in previous columns, marketers can no longer rely on their communication skills alone to get the job done. They must become scientists of a sort, skilled at measuring and reporting on their digital properties. The tools now exist to help us learn so much about our visitors. But, to paraphrase a famous quote, "With great power comes great potential to screw up." The only thing more heartbreaking than a poor converting website is a high-converting website with broken analytics. Are you getting the credit you deserve? Is a bad analytics setup hiding your true performance? I [...]

Google Analytics New Roll-Up Reports Aggregate Data For Multiple Sites & Apps

google-analytics-600 Google Analytics announced the launch of Roll-Up Reports yesterday, a new reporting tool that aggregates executive-level business data from multiple sites and apps within a single interface. According to the announcement, the new Roll-Up Report's "Executive Dashboard" includes summaries of key data in real-time for users who manage multiple sites, brands or franchises. Using A Google Tag Manager Listener To Get Your Real Bounce Rate

The difference in bounce rate when the 15 second event is added. Frustrated by your bounce rate? Does it stay stubbornly high at 60% or more? I was frustrated, too -- until I realized that Google Analytics doesn't track bounce rate fairly. A bounce is any visit for which the visitor only looks at one page and does not interact with it. If you're publishing a blog, this is truly unfair as someone may spend minutes reading a post, and still be counted as a bounce. This is what I call the Boing Fallacy. My friend and fellow Converterati, Bryan Eisenberg, pointed me to a simple solution by Aris Abramian on the eWeb Marketing blog. This solution crea [...]

Google Analytics Sharing feature Google Analytics announced it's now possible to share more assets using the Permalink Solution. "Permalink has been around for a while as a means to share assets. We just enabled new asset classes - such as goals - to be shared via this functionality," said Google Analytics product manager Stefan Schnabl. According to the announcement, segments, goal tracking, custom channel groupings and custom attribution models now can be easily shared using a unique URL, in addition to Dashboard and Custom Reports. Google confirms any assets shared via the link will remain private, and can only be [...]

Google Analytics Combines Web & App Data Into Single Reporting View

google-analytics-600 Google Analytics announced yesterday it is combining web and app data into a single reporting view, as well as merging its Visitor web metric and Active Users app metric  under the same "Users" name. Google Analytics product manager Nick Mihailovski shared the updates on the Google Analytics Google+ page, clarifying how the newly consolidated web and app data reporting view will work: Any data you send to the same property appears in all of the reporting views, regardless how you collected that data. This means if you send data from the web or from a mobile app to one property, both dat [...]

You Need More Than Just Google Analytics To Succeed Online

analytics-featured If you want your online business and campaigns to succeed, Google Analytics will not meet all of your measurement needs. That may seem like crazy thinking because GA has a huge array of capabilities. However, there are many areas where we have better tools for understanding visitor behavior such as interaction, user sentiment and impact from change. Without using these tools to gain insight, you will not be as successful as you can be. So, if GA isn't enough, where do we turn for gaining the insights we need into visitor behavior? I wish there was a single tool with everything ne [...]

New: Smart Lists With Google Analytics Automate Remarketing List Management

google-analytics-600 To help simplify the decision making process of creating remarketing lists, Google has introduced "Smart Lists with Google Analytics" which automate the process. Smart Lists rely on the anonymized conversion data gleaned from the millions of websites using Google Analytics that opt-in to share data with Google. The lists are built with machine learning using signals like visit duration, page depth, location, device, referrer, and browser to predict which visitors are most likely to convert upon returning to the site. Then based on those visitors' on-site actions, Analytics can calibrate rem [...]

Google Imparts “Not Provided” On Ad Clicks, A Day Later The Industry Exhales

not-provided-600 After word had been swirling the change was coming, yesterday Google announced it is expanding secure search to cover clicks on paid ads. The move means Google will treat the search query referrer data in ad clicks via secure search the same way they have been for all organic clicks since last year. The actual words people use in their searches will no longer be passed through the URL referrer string after a user clicks on a paid search ad from Google. Many experts agree, though, that the change will not be as cart-rocking for paid search practitioners and software providers as it was for S [...]

Android Tablets: 62 Pct. Of Sales But Only 23 Pct. Of Traffic

android-featured Gartner released new estimates of 2013 tablet sales on a global basis. The firm said that Android saw its market share go from 46 percent in 2012 to 62 percent last year. Apple's share fell from 53 percent to 36 percent accordingly. As with the smartphone market in the US and selected other markets, Apple remains the single largest individual vendor. Yet again, very strangely, Android shipments and alleged market share don't line up with actual internet traffic figures. Below are data from StatCounter that reflect global internet traffic from tablets. Unless the StatCounter da [...]
