Transformative Analytics — Envisioning The Next Generation Of Social Media Marketing Tools

I have a couple of cool tools in my kitchen: The Aero Press and the Vitamix. I love them both. The Aero Press is a convenient way to make a great cup of morning coffee. It helps me accomplish a habitual practice I engage in each day. But, the Vitamix (a high speed blender) has shifted my understanding and approach to food. I’ve learned to use different types of raw foods to fuel whatever activity I’m about to engage in (tip: try kale for mental clarity). This shift has improved my performance and productivity both mentally and physically (some in my family even point to a sunnier dis [...]

SimilarWeb.com uses data gathered from the company's browser plug-ins including SimilarSites and SimilarWeb as well as many others unrelated to the company's products th [...]

Quantcast “Compare Sites” Feature Back Up With Expanded Options

A couple of weeks ago, Danny Sullivan noticed the Compare Sites feature in Quantcast had vanished. Today, we got word that the feature is back up and updated. The Quantcast Compare Site feature now allows site traffic comparisons of up to four publishers, instead of just two. The comparison view shows tabular graph results for uniques, people, visits, and page views, as well as a table view of the previous month's data. To access the Compare Site functionality,  go to any site’s profile page and click on the grey “Compare Site” button to the top right of the graph. Enter up to [...]

Quantcast “Compare Sites” Feature Disappears, Company Says Will Return

One of my favorite features of Quantcast is the ability to compare metrics like traffic for two different sites against each other. Make that "was" one of my favorite features. It disappeared earlier this week, but the company says it'll make a comeback. Quantcast launched the feature in December 2006. One thing I loved about it versus other comparison tools out there was that if two sites "Quantified," used Quantcast's tracking code on their sites, you were getting about as direct comparison as possible. There was no wondering if the figures were perhaps off for one site versus the other, [...]

Vine Analytics Already? Yep. And Free, Too

If you're one of those super-early adopters of Vine, there's already a way to get a basic snapshot of how your six-second videos are performing. The folks at Simply Measured have launched a simple Vine statistics report that brands or individuals can use. The service is basically free; it only costs you a tweet announcing that you're using the tool. Once the report is ready, you'll be able to see a variety of stats related to engagement for your Vine videos shared during the previous seven days. (Perhaps a paid version will go back further?) The tool includes data such as: Total Enga [...]

Mobile app developers have a new tool to quickly see how users have rated their apps -- and their competitors' -- on both the iOS and Android platforms. Oh, and it's free, too. It's called Applause, and it's a new tool just announced by uTest, the same company that previously created Mobile AppGrader. Applause has analyzed more than 50 million app reviews from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The tool does sentiment analysis on those reviews to measure user satisfaction, and ultimately comes up with an "Applause Score" between 0-100. There's a minimum review threshold that needs t [...]

SocialCrawlytics: Providing Insight On How Your Content Is Being Shared

It's funny how subjective using social media tools can be from person to person. Every day, I use at least a half dozen tools to post and track social activity online, primarily SocialFlow, Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Tweetdeck, Facebook Insights, Exact Target. On occasion, that toolset grows: Google Webmaster Tools, Simply Measured, PageLever, Followerwonk, Raven Tools, Curalate, Twitter Analytics, bitly, Muckrack, Tweetreach, Google Insights, Statigram, IFTTT... and there are more if I count the tools I use on a personal basis. I haven't used Union metrics for Tumblr yet (frankly I am si [...]

Twitter, Nielsen Will Create A New Social TV Rating Metric

This is a coup for Twitter: The company is partnering with Nielsen to become the first arbiter of the most socially successful U.S. TV programs. The companies have a new multi-year agreement to create the "Nielsen Twitter TV Rating," a measurement that Nielsen says will serve as a complement to its existing TV ratings. While the latter measures "first screen" viewership (i.e., on the television), the new Twitter TV Rating will serve as an industry-standard metric for "second screen" activity -- i.e., the reach of conversation on Twitter about TV programs. I called it a "coup" for Twitter [...]
