MySpace Launches New iOS App That Puts Music & Connections First

MySpace-2 Earlier this year, the revamped MySpace launched on the heels of a Justin Timberlake single. Today MySpace has launched a new iOS app that puts a focus on connections & music. Like the newest rebrand the design of the app is stunning. From vivid images, to tiled galleries and card based profiles, the look is solid. The music aspect of the app is where MySpace may see success. When looking to connect a user is given two main buttons at the top of their profile. One button allows you to connect and another that lets you view their playlists. The new MySpace is less of a Facebo [...]

But Twitter and Instagram have massively increased their usage in the past year, according to a new survey from the Pew Internet & American Life Project, together with Harvard's Berkman Center. The new report covers US teens and social media. There are an enormous number of findings in the document, which was compiled using both surveys and focus groups. You can read or download the full report online. A New MySpace Relaunches (Again) On The Back Of Justin Timberlake’s First Single In 7 Years

Horizontal-Nav With big news on the Facebook front, MySpace picked tough day to get traction around their new product. However, they did muster up one hell of a promotional tool in the form of  investor Justin Timberlake's first single in 7 years. The track, Suit & Tie, features Jay-Z and is exclusively streamed on the updated social network. Will JT's massive exposure and traffic be enough to bring back interest in MySpace? Probably not. But the new look is visually stunning and the features are quite nice. From login/sign-up to browsing music, the UI is slick and the overall design is extremely [...]

MySpace Is Back. Again. This Time With A Super Sleek Music-Oriented Look

MySpace-New It's been four years since MySpace has been relevant as a social network. Despite the mass community exodus to other social networks, the new Justin Timberlake-led ownership team is still attempting to revive it. A new teaser video was released yesterday that gave users a sneak peak at an upcoming redesign: While the design is clean & ascetically pleasing, but the focus seems a bit all over the place. My initial thoughts were that Justin Timberlake threw Google+, Pinterest, and Spotify into a blender and made some sort of social media slushy. The video has strong focus on [...]

MySpace Settles FTC Charges Related To Sharing User Data With Advertisers

ftc-logo Social network MySpace told users it wouldn't share personally identifiable information (PII), but then it gave advertisers individual Friend IDs that could be easily connected with user profiles and the information publicly posted there, according to the Federal Trade Commission. The agency says MySpace also incorrectly told users it complied with the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework related to personal data. The FTC says MySpace misled "millions of users." MySpace has agreed to a settlement with the FTC over the charges, which has the company saying it won't make privacy misrepresentation [...]

How Real Is Social Media Fatigue?

computer-dog-tired-featured Facebook. Twitter. Google+. Pinterest. Foursquare. LinkedIn. Path. How many of these social networks do you belong to? Do you participate in every day? Every week? Every month? When a new one comes along does your heart leap in anticipation, or sink a little when you realize it’s one more thing to add to your already burgeoning list of chores; one more series of tasks on an already too-long to-do list? As pervasive as social media seems, it’s still early days and there have already been shakeouts. Some of us are old and hoary enough to remember Orkut, to once have thought we’d neve [...]

Hitwise UK Chart Shows MySpace’s Precipitous Decline

myspace-decline-featured StumbleUpon has replaced MySpace in Hitwise's rankings of the Top 10 UK Social Networks and Forums. That news alone probably isn't very surprising; anyone familiar with the social networking space should be aware of MySpace's general decline. But this chart shows just how dramatic that decline has been. Hitwise says that MySpace's share of the social network space in the UK has dropped from 5.8 percent in November 2008 to just 0.31 percent three years later. If my math is correct, that means Hitwise has lost about 95% of its UK traffic since November 2008. StumbleUpon has grown s [...]
