FTC: Brand-Incentivized Pins On Pinterest Potentially “Deceptive,” Require Disclosure

Cole Haan Eric Goldman alerted us this weekend (via Twitter) to an FTC ruling that may have a significant impact on the way that brands interact with users on Pinterest. The FTC determined (see embedded letter below) that a Cole Haan "Wandering Sole" contest that asked users to pin/re-pin images of Cole Haan products in exchange for a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree "violated Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, 15 U.S.C. § 45." Pinterest Advertisers Could Start Paying For Promoted Pins As Early As Next Month [Report]

Pinterest began experimenting with Promoted Pins last October. Report: Pinterest Is Looking For 7 Figure Ad Buys, But Not Yet

Pinterest Pinterest still isn't selling ads, but when it does they won't come cheap. AdAge reported today that the network is seeking spending commitments between $1 and $2 million, and is hoping to price CPMs between $30 and $40. Marketers have long been eager to tap consumers on Pinterest, which according to the Pew Research Center trails only Facebook and LinkedIn in percentage of online adult users in the United States. Pinterest Target is continuing to build on its relationship with Pinterest users, announcing today a collaboration with three top designers who each have a substantial number of followers on the social media site. Pinterest Launches New Mobile Website For Its Growing Base Of Mobile Users

The invite shows up as a home page pop-up and promises "a whole new way to explore Pins." Propelled By Women, Pinterest Beats Out Email In Social Sharing For First Time [Report]

New data from social sharing service ShareThis shows that for the first time, Pinterest outpaced email to become the third most popular sharing channel in the fourth quarter of 2013. Pinners Purchase Aplenty This Cyber Monday: Pinterest Revenue Triples

pinterest-logo By now we know that this year's Cyber Monday was a hit with digital sales showing an 18 percent growth from last year. A new study from piqora.com shows that Pinterest helped drive online sales as revenue on Cyber Monday was up 3.6x from the previous 30 days. Piqora analyzed 400 brands on Pinterest in this study and found that while Pinterest traffic was unchanged the purchasing intent of users was through the roof. Why So Sad? Curalate Study Finds Instagram Images With Blue Hues Win More Likes

instagram-blue-featured After analyzing over 30 image features of eight million Instagram photos, visual analytics provider Curalate found images with blue hues received 24 percent more Likes than photos with predominantly red hues on the photo-sharing platform.
