Pinterest Gets Tough On Contest Rules By Adding New Language To Its Acceptable Use Policy

pinterest-legal-featured After including a complete set of "Dos and Don'ts" for contests on its Brand Guidelines page in May, Pinterest has taken further action to enforce its contest rules by updating its Acceptable Use Policy this week. According to a blog post on the social media's Business Blog: A few months ago, we updated our contest guidelines to reflect what we’d learned about how contests affect the Pinner experience. We’re now adding these guidelines to our Acceptable Use Policy. That means that, moving forward, we won’t allow contests that: Suggest that Pinterest sponsors or endorses them or t [...]

Planning A Pinterest Contest? Don’t Forget One Pin Is Plenty

pinterest-logo-220 In an attempt to keep marketers from diluting Pinterest's core value of quality over quantity, the image-focused social media site updated contest guidelines earlier this year, adding a list of "Dos" and "Don'ts" for brands wanting to host Pinterest contests. Pinterest's compliance language makes it clear that they are in no way responsible for any promotions hosted on their site, and any brand holding a Pinterest contest must comply with all legal requirements. The list of "Dos" and "Don'ts" offered on Pinterest's Brand Guidelines page give marketers a standard set of rules to follow wh [...]

Your Links On Pinterest May Be Stopping Traffic In Its Tracks

Pinterest suspicious link warning when using shortened URL Pinterest has been considered a top traffic driver for many sites, most recently showing its marketing clout by launching Pinterest Web Analytics. But, clicking on an image isn’t the slam-dunk traffic driver as it may seem. And, adding a shortened link to the caption of a pin may be stopping potential traffic in its tracks. If you spend any time on Pinterest, you’ll know that clicking on a pin only brings you to an image, and as a user, you need to click twice in order to get to the original source. Here at Marketing Land, we've been doing some Pinterest testing over the last few weeks, [...]

pinterest-spam-featured With its incredible rise to popularity, Pinterest has become a big target for spammers. New systems have been implemented to help identify and report spam. The Pinterest quality team has been busy analyzing report data and are now making a move to ban these fraudulent Pinners -- forever. The bans will be "removed for good." Users may see a drop in followers in this clean sweep of spammers. Pinterest estimates that 99% of users will lose less than 10 followers.  The Pinterest team is also exploring ways to prevent these accounts from ever being created in the first place. Pinterest Users Can Now Block, Report Accounts

pinterest-logo-220 Marketers that are active on Pinterest may want to tread a little more carefully now, thanks to a couple new features that Pinterest is rolling out this week. Pinterest users now have the ability to block and/or report others at the account level. Reporting was previously available only on individual pins, which was an inefficient way for users to tell Pinterest about accounts that might be violating the site's guidelines. Both new options are available under a small flag icon on the profile page. Here's a screenshot from Pinterest's announcement: As you can see, users have severa [...]

pinterest-spam-featured Ask Facebook. Ask Twitter. Ask Google+. Ask just about any social network, but especially one that's become big enough for the U.S. president to join: Building an audience and attracting media attention are great, but they also mean that trouble is on the way -- trouble in the form of spam. That's what Pinterest is facing this week, as spammers are coming out of the woodwork to tell their stories. That link points to a Daily Dot interview with "Steve," a self-admitted Pinterest spammer who has "a stockpile of accounts" and says he's "spamming the crap out of the site." "Steve" says Pinte [...]
