Quora Says Its Metrics Are Up 300 Percent, Doesn’t Say From What

quora-icon Quora says all of the company's important usage metrics are up at least 300 percent in the past year, but it isn't sharing its baseline for comparison. Company co-founder and chief executive Adam D'Angelo shared the non-specific stats today in a new video on its blog -- a video that exists primarily to sell Quora as a great place to work. D'Angelo's comments come at about the 4:10 mark of the video. He says: "We've been growing very quickly. We're three times bigger than we were a year ago on all of our usage metrics and, in the future, we're going to be much, much bigger than we are [...]

Quora Rolls Out Full-Text Search: Good For Blog Ideas & Reputation Management

quora-logo-150 There's no getting around it: the search experience on Quora was never all that great. As you typed a search, Quora would show results if your text was found in a question, in a topic name, or a user's name. And rather than get a page of matching search results, you'd have to click on one result at a time from the search box dropdown. Quora has changed all that with its launch of full-text, keyword-based search. The dropdown still offers quick navigation to people, topics and blogs on Quora ... ... but those keywords at the bottom of the list now lead to a more traditional, keywor [...]

Quora Drops Boards, Relaunches Them As Blogs

quora-logo-150 Quora continues to make a content push that goes beyond its Q&A roots with Wednesday's announcement of a new -- and very basic -- blog platform. But, it's not actually an entirely new feature; Quora Blogs are based on, and a replacement for, Quora Boards, a curation tool that launched in December 2011. Quora users that previously created Boards will now find that those have been renamed Blogs, and given the tools that are associated with the blog platform. Those tools, as I said above, are very basic; this isn't a competitor for Wordpress.com, Blogger or other hosted blog platforms. [...]

Quora Aims To Expand Beyond Q&A, Seems To Have Wikipedia In Its Sights

quora-featured Quora has big plans for 2013 that will include the site expanding beyond its Q&A format with new products and/or features that might take on Wikipedia, and perhaps even Google. Co-founder Adam D'Angelo shared the company's mission in a blog post late last night, and promised that Quora will expand in order to meet its goals of becoming "an internet-scale Library of Alexandria." We hope to become an internet-scale Library of Alexandria, a place where hundreds of millions of people go to learn about anything and share everything they know. To do that we are going to have to expand. Today Q [...]

Co-Founder Charlie Cheever Is Out At Quora

charlie-cheever Charlie Cheever, co-founder of the growing Q&A site Quora, has stepped away from day-to-day work and is now just an advisor to the company. As TechCrunch is reporting, Cheever's future plans are unknown at the moment. Cheever co-founded Quora with Adam D'Angelo in 2009 after the pair served instrumental roles during Facebook's early days. Quora formally launched in 2010 and, by the end of the calendar year, began seeing significant traffic growth. Between late 2010 and late 2011, US traffic to Quora was up 882 percent. Cheever hasn't commented on the split yet, but D'Angelo offered an of [...]

With Mobile Traffic Above 25 Percent, Quora Launches It First Android Apps

quora-icon Mobile now accounts for more than 25 percent of Quora's traffic and the company is aiming to build on that growth by launching its first Android apps. Quora says its Android apps have all of the site's core features, and also take advantage of some of Android's "unique characteristics," with things like: Integrated search: Users can search Quora even when not inside the Android app. It also supports voice search, too. Top Answers widget: This can be added to your Android home screen. Landscape mode The Quora Android app is available in the Google Play store and Amazon Appstore [...]

Quora Reaches Out To The Web With Embeddable Content Widget

quora-logo-150 Here's a smart move: Quora has announced what it's calling Embedded Quotes, which is essentially a widget that makes it easier for web site owners to include Quora content in their blog posts, articles and web pages. There are two options for webmasters: embedding a full answer or post, or embedding just a portion of an answer/post. The former is done by using the "Embed" link that shows up at the bottom of a post (before the comments). Quora will show a pop-up with the embed code. Alternatively, users can highlight just a portion of a Quora post or answer and use the "Embed Quote [...]

Quora: We’re Not Just About Tech Content, You Know?

quora-logo-150 About a year ago, while researching Quora for one of my speaking commitments, I typed "bikes" into its search box to see if there was even a single question-answer combo about such a non-tech / non-web topic. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Quora had a reputation as being extremely heavy on tech and web-related content, with little content of interest for the so-called "regular Joe." But that's not what I found. There were several active topics with plenty of bike-related content. Last summer, I used this screenshot below in a blog post on my Small Business Search Marketing bl [...]

Quora (Finally) Has A Follow Button

quora-logo-150 From the better-late-than-never file comes news that Quora is finally offering a "follow" button that can be embedded on websites. The code is available on Quora.com now. If you're already a Quora account holder, you should also see a "Create a Follow Button" link on your profile. The button comes in two colors and embedding it is no different than what you've likely experienced when adding Facebook, Twitter or other social buttons to your website. The button can also be customized so that it encourages others to follow a topic, rather than your user profile. Here's what they look like w [...]

Quora Boards: Q&A Site Adds Curation Tool That Marketers Should Know About

quora-logo-150 Quora took a big step beyond being a a question-and-answer site with today's announcement of a new product called Boards. It opens the door for Quora users to post and share information outside of the standard Q&A format. As Quora's Adam D'Angelo explains in today's announcement, Boards was driven by the way people consume information on Quora. As Quora has grown, we've learned that people want to read the most interesting content regardless of whether it happens to be in question and answer format or not. And behind every question people ask is something larger they want to know more ab [...]

Quora Traffic Has Grown 882% In The Last Year, But It’s Still Just A Fraction Of What Yahoo Answers Gets

quora-growth-featured Yahoo Answers celebrated its sixth birthday earlier this week, notching another year comfortably atop the Q&A space. It's been a while since Yahoo has announced any Q&A-related milestones, but the last one was a biggie: In May 2010, Yahoo Answers received its billionth answer. Yahoo Answers' spot as king of Q&A is unlikely to change anytime soon, but there's a sense that Quora -- which is about a year-and-a-half old -- has the most momentum among Q&A sites. And new traffic stats that Experian Hitwise compiled this week for Marketing Land confirm Quora's momentum. Consider this: U.S. traf [...]
