There's no getting around it: the search experience on Quora was never all that great. As you typed a search, Quora would show results if your text was found in a question, in a topic name, or a user's name. And rather than get a page of matching search results, you'd have to click on one result at a time from the search box dropdown. Quora continues to make a content push that goes beyond its Q&A roots with Wednesday's announcement of a new -- and very basic -- blog platform. But, it's not actually an entirely new feature; Quora Blogs are based on, and a replacement for, Quora Boards, a curation tool that launched in December 2011. Quora has big plans for 2013 that will include the site expanding beyond its Q&A format with new products and/or features that might take on Wikipedia, and perhaps even Google. Charlie Cheever, co-founder of the growing Q&A site Quora, has stepped away from day-to-day work and is now just an advisor to the company. As TechCrunch is reporting, Cheever's future plans are unknown at the moment. Cheever co-founded Quora with Adam D'Angelo in 2009 after the pair served instrumental roles during Facebook's early days. Mobile now accounts for more than 25 percent of Quora's traffic and the company is aiming to build on that growth by launching its first Android apps. Here's a smart move: Quora has announced what it's calling Embedded Quotes, which is essentially a widget that makes it easier for web site owners to include Quora content in their blog posts, articles and web pages. There are two options for webmasters: embedding a full answer or post, or embedding just a portion of an answer/post. About a year ago, while researching Quora for one of my speaking commitments, I typed "bikes" into its search box to see if there was even a single question-answer combo about such a non-tech / non-web topic. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Quora had a reputation as being extremely heavy on tech and web-related content, with little content of interest for the so-called "regular Joe." If you're already a Quora account holder, you should also see a "Create a Follow Button" link on your profile.
