Twitter’s MoPub Will Open Its Native Ad Market For Apps Tomorrow

mopub Twitter continues to go native. Today it announced that its native ad product for mobile apps, in testing since Twitter's $350 million acquisition of MoPub in December, will be rolled out globally on Wednesday. The product offers app developers the ability to create native ads for their own apps, an ad server to push ad campaigns into native inventory and an extension into OpenRTB that allows other publishers to bid on the ad units. Twitter has long been a proponent of native ads. Promoted tweets are a prime example of the ad form, in which ads are designed to look and feel like standard [...]

worldcup Aiming to cash in on the world's most popular sporting event, Facebook is preparing to give advertisers a way to more precisely target soccer fans during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. As reported Friday in AdAge, Facebook is showing its biggest advertisers a sales deck that offers up an audience segment that has shown interest in the World Cup, the first time the social network is creating a segment for advertisers related to a television event. We asked Facebook about the report, and a spokesperson said Facebook doesn't comment during "such early stages of testing." That to us, is f [...]

#BostonStrong: As Boston Returns To Its Marathon, Brands Keep It Respectful

bostonstrong When it comes to the perilous business of brands joining the conversation about tragic news events, the risk usually outweighs the reward. The ham-handed attempts -- SpaghettiOs' mascot waving an American flag in a head-scratching remembrance of Pearl Harbor or AT&T's tacky "Never Forget" tweet last September 11 -- are so memorable and damaging that brands seem to be wising up and sitting on the sidelines. But anniversaries remain a tempting marketing target -- especially when the narrative is one of rebirth and redemption, like today's first running of the Boston Marathon since [...]

Facebook Confirms That It Will Use Location Data For Ad Targeting — Someday

location-history It should come as no surprise that Facebook plans to use location data from its mobile apps to customize the ads it serves consumers. The combination of an advertising-driven business plan and access to data about where users have visited and most importantly where they are at a given moment requires it. So when Facebook said yesterday that its new Nearby Friends feature isn't being used to target location-based advertising begged the question of when it would flip the switch. Today, we're no closer to the answer, but Josh Constine of TechCrunch got explicit confirmation that it is o [...]

Infographic: How To Deal With Complaining Customers On Social Media

Social media has turned into a new and important channel for customers to reach out to brands when they have complaints, though sometimes in a most-unsocial manner. Here's a guide to five types of customers you might encounter and how to deal with them. Meek, Aggressive, High-Roller, Opportunist and Chronic Complainer are the customer types that ExactTarget outlines in this infographic. The Meek Customer has a low "difficult to fix" and "irrational" metric, where a simple "I'm sorry" may be enough to solve the problem. The Aggressive Customer is suggested as better dealt with by taking t [...]

Facebook Local Page Ratings Now Come With A Numerical Display

sprinkles-review It appears that Facebook is working to re-emphasize its star-rating system for brand Pages. As reported first today by Inside Facebook, the social network is displaying numerical ratings, rather than only the star icons it previously showed. And when you hover your cursor over the ratings, a full rundown of all the establishment's ratings appears. Could “Liking” A Brand On Facebook Waive Your Legal Rights?

social-media-dislike-thumb-down-featured There is a very disturbing trend in the world of corporate terms and conditions. Consumers (and small merchants) are increasingly being forced by fine-print clauses into binding arbitration to resolve disputes with companies. The very pro-business US Supreme Court not long ago ruled this was entirely legal. What it means as a practical matter is that individuals give up their right to sue in court as well as the right to join together in class action litigation against corporations. The problem is that consumers, even if they're permitted to sue individually, won't because they don't h [...]
