Winning At #RealTimeMarketing On Twitter

twitter-logo-600 The World Cup was a great lesson for social media marketers, with leading brands like Adidas, Snickers and Orbitz brilliantly showcasing Twitter's real-time marketing capabilities. Whether it's being present in those significant moments across the globe, or driving engagement for marketing campaigns, Twitter has proven to be an essential way for brands to become a part of people's lives. Real-Time Conversations & Your Brand In July, Twitter announced that there were 672 million tweets sent related to the 2014 World Cup. And that's just one event. Consider the millions of events that [...]

Cool Janrain Tool Shows The Data You Expose When You Log In Socially

janrain-social-main We all do it, likely without much thought. We use our social media -- or other digital -- identities to log into multiple websites daily. It's quick, convenient and saves us the hassle of creating another username and password. But if you are concerned about privacy (and you should be), it's a good idea to stop every so often and dig into what data you are exposing with those social logins. Not so easy, you say? You don't want to wade through terms of service on a Friday afternoon? Fortunately, that's not necessary. Janrain, one of the leaders in the social login provider industry, has a [...]

Facebook’s Ad Machine Keeps Rolling; Key Q2 Metrics For Marketers

facebook-target-aim-featured To no one's surprise, Facebook again crushed Wall Street expectations during its quarterly financial call yesterday, reporting revenue of $2.9 billion during the quarter the ended in June. The great majority -- 92% -- of that revenue total came from Facebook's advertising juggernaut, an increase of 67% over the same quarter in 2013. In short there are no signs of a slowdown for Facebook, which eMarketer expects to capture nearly 8% of global digital ad revenue, and more than 22% of mobile ad revenue this year. "Our team has a really strong belief in what we are building the world's f [...]

image Weird Al Owns Social Media Content creators, social media strategists and PR professionals should fall to the feet of Weird Al and lap up his creative genius. To promote it, Weird Al launched his #8videos8days project, releasing one music video per day for eight days straight, each on a different content partner's website. Eight. Days. Straight. Turtle Wax Mines Social Media Gold With #Reflectie Contest

turtle-wax There aren't many consumer products that inspire more adoration than cars. We love them, pamper them, polish them and show them off to our friends. There's a reason the 1975 lyrics by Queen's drummer Roger Taylor -- "I'm in love with my car, gotta feel for my automobile" -- tongue in cheek though they were, still ring true today. Except these days, instead of cruising Southern California's iconic Whittier Boulevard, car lovers are doing most of their parading on social media. That's one of the reasons Turtle Wax, which sells products that put a shine on America's auto fixation, has r [...]

Target By Operating System & Browser Type With New Facebook Advertising Behavior Types

facebook-f-logo-1920 It's pretty clear that Facebook is leading the way in digital ad targeting, and will for quite a while. While Google is struggling with mobile and socially-driven demographic/interest targeting, Facebook keeps on releasing the hits. The newest release is key for those marketers looking to promote plugins/extensions or specific programs/apps by OS. One of the new attributes added in the behaviors section is the "Internet Browser Used." Of course this is crucial for the plugin/extension field, but could lead to other opportunities based off of the sophistication of a user's browser. For examp [...]

William Shatner Boldly Goes Into Facebook Mentions App For Celebrities, Calls It “Ill Conceived”

800px-William_Shatner_02_(7559659118) Actor William Shatner is exactly the type of celebrity Facebook is catering to with the launch of the Mentions app last week. Active, engaged and social media savvy, Shatner has a Facebook Page with nearly 800,000 likes. He even seems to run the page and his other outspoken social media efforts himself, unlike many celebs who hide behind publicists. So it's fitting that Shatner took Mentions for a test drive, and posted about his experience on his Tumblr today. And his conclusion? He was underwhelmed. Like many admins of verified celebrity Facebook Pages, Shatner was prompted to d [...]

Facebook Continues “Getting Started” Ads Series With Introduction Of Custom Audiences

Facebook-Bike Continuing its effort to demystify its self-serving advertising process, Facebook published a how-to post about its Custom Audience targeting feature today. The post, Facebook's second installment in its "Getting Started" series aimed at small businesses, describes how marketers can upload customer lists from existing phone or email contacts or data from a website or mobile app. From the post, which includes a very good video showing the drill: When you upload your contact list, Facebook hashes the information. That means we make the data unreadable, so no one — including Facebo [...]

Facebook Save — A New Read-It-Later Option For Facebook Posts & Pages

IntroducingSave2 Facebook tied up one of the loose ends in its mobile and web product today, announcing a bookmarking feature that allows users to save posts for later viewing. The new feature, called Save, is arriving fairly late in the read-it-later game, behind well developed services like Pocket and Instapaper that have grown popular with people looking to store their reading lists in one convenient place. Those services also cache stories to be read offline. Facebook's doesn't. But Facebook's Save does has something no similar product has: the enormous scale of Facebook's 1.28 billion active users. [...]

pinterest-promoted-pins-featured Pinterest, which for many users serves as an online shopping catalogue, moved further down that road this week, announcing an agreement with e-commerce platform Shopify. Stopify, Pinterest's Vivian Chow wrote in a blog post, said its online merchants get significant referral traffic from Pinterest. Now those businesses wi [...]

WSJ: Twitter Is Cooking Up New Metrics To Convince Wall Street It’s Reaching Enough People

twitter-nyse Twitter has a growth problem -- more precisely it has a problem with Wall Street not believing that it's growing fast enough and therefore doubting its prospects for long-term profitability. Despite revenue that has doubled for five consecutive quarters, Twitter is losing the perception battle. Since the IPO last November, the microblogging company has been wrestling with expectations and comparisons to Facebook and its billion-plus base of active users. Twitter's stock price, which was once as high as $73 a share, closed today at $36.87. In April, when Twitter reported monthly active u [...]
