Google+ Debuts With ACSI Consumer Satisfaction Score Well Above Facebook’s

The annual American Customer Satisfaction Index is out for social media sites, measuring satisfaction with Google+ for the first time against other social networks. What a debut! Google's year-old social network had the best satisfaction while the world's most popular social network, Facebook, came in last. Top Marks For Google+ The scores look like this: On the scale, 100 would be perfect satisfaction. Google+ came in at 78, or what I'd call a B- or C+ letter grade, far from perfect. But it was much better than Twitter (64 points, rated for the first time), LinkedIn (63 points, also rate [...]

Facebook’s Time-On-Site Back Above 400 Minutes Per User In June, comScore Says

After a couple months of stagnant activity, Facebook usage rebounded in June according to new data from comScore. The company says that Facebook users averaged just above 400 minutes on the site in June, which is about a five percent gain from the 381 average minutes they spent in May. But it's not the first time usage surpassed the 400-minute level; earlier this year, comScore reported that Facebook users were averaging 405 minutes on the site. ComScore also reports that Facebook's unique visitor count rebounded slightly in June after a couple months of declines. There were an e [...]

Facebook’s Grip On The Web: 22 Percent Of Pages Link There, 8 Percent Use Open Graph [STUDY]

More than one-fifth of the web links to Facebook in some way, and almost eight percent use Facebook's Open Graph tags -- two numbers that offer a glimpse of Facebook's deep grip on the web. The numbers come from a Zyxt Labs study of about 1.3 billion URLs earlier this year. The study found that more than 242 million pages, about 21.7 percent of the total studied, referenced at least one Facebook URL -- usually things such as the Like and Share buttons and other social widgets, but also traditional links to Facebook profiles or Facebook Group pages. Here's a look at the breakdown of the [...]

Airlines & Telecom Companies Are Best At Facebook Page Customer Service

Companies in the telecom and airline industries are tops when it comes to providing customer service on Facebook. That's the conclusion of a recent study by the social analytics company Social Bakers. At the company level, KLM Airlines, T-Mobile and Sony Mobile were the most active brands in responding to customers and prospects on Facebook. Social Bakers analyzed Facebook brand pages -- the ones that allow Facebook users to post -- to see what companies respond most often to public posts from regular Facebook users. Between March 1st and May 30th of this year, telecom companies replied [...]

Google+ Users Spend 12 Minutes Per Day ‘In The Stream’

With Google+ about to turn a year old tomorrow, Google's VP Vic Gundotra updated the world -- or at least the 6,000 or so attendees at the Google I/O developers conference -- on how the service is doing. It's always a bit tricky when hearing Google share usage statistics about Google+, because the company doesn't typically measure activity only on Google+ itself -- it talks about how Google+ account holders use all of Google's products. But at I/O today, Gundotra did share one statistic specific to the Google+ platform when he announced that active users spend 12 minutes per day "in the [...]

Twitter: 60 Percent Of Users Access Via Mobile

Twitter is now saying that 60 percent of its 140-million-person active user base accesses the service via mobile devices. It's the first time the company has updated that important statistic since last September, when Twitter said that 55 percent of what was then 100 million active users were using mobile devices. Twitter shared the stat during a Twitter For Brands event on Thursday, and posted it on Twitter, too, of course: 60% of our 140 million active users access Twitter through mobile - up from 55%. #Twitter4Brands— Twitter Advertising (@TwitterAds) June 7, 2012 Earli [...]

Reuters Survey Paints Picture Of A Facebook Backlash

Facebook's recent IPO has led to legal troubles at the financial/markets level, and there are signs, too, that it's also having a negative effect on the site's regular users. A new study shared today by Reuters/Ipsos paints a picture of the user backlash related to Facebook's troubled IPO, and also questions both user activity and e-commerce capabilities. After surveying more than a thousand U.S. adults between May 31 and June 4, the survey found that 44 percent of Facebook users said the company's IPO made them view Facebook less favorably. That echoes other recent statistics that sugg [...]

Pew: Daily Twitter Usage Has Quadrupled Since 2010

The Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project has released new survey based findings about Twitter usage in the US. Overall 15 percent of online adults say they use Twitter, with 8 percent doing so daily. That compares with 13 percent who reported being Twitter users last year. Yet the number of daily Twitter users has doubled since May 2011 and quadrupled since Pew began doing surveys about Twitter in 2010. Pew attributes this increase in daily usage in part to the rise of smartphones. Source: Pew, n=2,253 US adults Twitter's greatest penetration and daily u [...]

Facebook Accounted For 9 Percent Of US Internet Visits In April, Hitwise Says

With Facebook's gazillion-dollar* IPO inching closer, Experian Hitwise has shared a number of statistics that provide something of a snapshot about the site and its audience. One of the numbers that stands out is that nine percent of all U.S. internet visits last month were to Facebook. Hitwise says Facebook is averaging more than 229 million visits per day -- that's about 1.6 billion visits per week -- so far in 2012. And it's an extremely loyal audience: 96 percent of Facebook's visitors in April were returning to the site -- i.e., they had also visited the site at least once in the pr [...]

Report: Google+ Engagement Down, 30% of Users Publicly Post Won’t Post Again

Yes, Google+ has 170 million users, but just how active are they?  A recent report from RJ Metrics suggests that based on public posts from 40,000 Google Plus accounts, engagement is poor.  The average public Google+ post is seeing less than one +1, less than one reply and less than one re-share. The article cites the fact that typically 70% of users re-post again when a public post has been made. However with Google+, of those users that make one public post, only 30% ever post again publicly. Another interesting fact from the study was the number of total public posts made (ca [...]

Survey: Nearly 50% See Facebook “Fading Away” Over Time

A new poll from AP and CNBC on the eve of the Facebook IPO shows that Americans are ambivalent about the company and that it faces numerous challenges as it seeks to generate more revenue growth from its already massive user base. The AP-CNBC poll was conducted May 3 through May 7. The  survey sample was 1,004 US adults. Among survey respondents 56 percent had a Facebook profile, 40 percent did not and 4 percent didn't know. Google, Apple and Microsoft are viewed more favorably than Facebook. Of the comparison group Twitter was viewed less favorably. The results shift by demographic [...]

Report: 6 Months In, Google+ Brand Pages Show Continued Growth

Yesterday marked the half-birthday for Google+ brand pages.  In honor of this anniversary, social analytics company, Simply Measured, released a report focusing in on Google+ brand page adoption and engagement since inception.  The Interbrand 100 were used in measuring all the statistics for the study.  One constant across all of the data is growth.  The number of circlers for the Interbrand 100 nearly doubled from Arpil to May: The average weekly circler engagement is up 112% since February.  One of the key drivers for this growth is content engagement.  Over the past 3 month [...]

Is Pinterest Sending Less Referral Traffic? One Report Says So

After peaking in February, referral traffic from Pinterest has declined for two consecutive months. That's according to new data from the social sharing tool provider Shareaholic. Analyzing traffic to the 200,000 publishers that use its social sharing buttons, Shareaholic shows traffic from Pinterest representing 0.74 percent of all traffic during April, down from 0.8 percent in March and a high of 1.05 percent in February. The decline puts Pinterest back below Twitter as a referral source after surpassing it in February. This is just one source of data about which sites drive t [...]

Facebook Approaching 50 Percent Share Of Social Logins [STUDY]

Facebook is the number one choice for social login and its gains over the past two years have it now approaching 50 percent penetration among social login services, a new study shows. In analyzing at the 365,000 websites that use its services, Janrain reports that 45 percent of consumers use their Facebook accounts to login on third-party websites -- a number that's been increasing steadily since the first quarter of 2010. As the graph below shows, Google was previously the top social login service, but it's a fairly distant second place now with 30 percent market share. Janrain f [...]

Champions League Soccer Breaks Super Bowl’s Record For Twitter Activity

The Super Bowl may be the biggest sporting event in the U.S., but around the world American football doesn't hold a candle to soccer's ... err, football's ... popularity. That was proved true on Twitter yesterday when the Champions League semifinal between Barcelona and Chelsea set a new tweets-per-second (TPS) record for a sporting event. Twitter announced that 13,684 TPS were hitting its platform during the match, breaking the Super Bowl's record of 12,233 TPS set in February. As Twitter becomes more mainstream -- you can hardly watch a TV show of any kind in the U.S. today without [...]

Google's dominance outside the U.S. is taking a slight hit with news today that Facebook has overtaken it five times this month as the most-visited website in Brazil. The news comes from Serasa Experian (link in Portuguese), the Brazilian version of Experian Hitwise. The company reports that Facebook first beat out Google for most visits back on April 1st, then again on April 6th and April 8th. It happened for the fourth and fifth times this past weekend, when Facebook was the most popular site in Brazil on both April 14th and 15th. On the 14th, Facebook received 10.86 percent of all we [...]
