Tumblr Has Its First Analytics Platform Via Partnership With Union Metrics

tumblr-featured Brands and marketers finally have an analytics option to help understand activity and engagement on Tumblr. It's called Union Metrics for Tumblr, and it's the result of a formal partnership between Tumblr and Union Metrics -- the same company that offers the TweetReach analytics service for companies using Twitter. Union Metrics says its new service "can measure activity and engagement for any blog or any topic on Tumblr." The company has access to the full Tumblr data firehose through Gnip, and offers various dashboards of data such as Blog Summary, Topic Summary and Post Detail. [...]

Tumblr Traffic Has Doubled In Last Year, Search Visits Up 200 Percent [comScore]

tumblr_on_blue_small Tumblr has gained a lot of new users and readers over the past year, and it also has a big fan in Google. (And possibly Bing, for that matter.) According to comScore, Tumblr saw a 100.5 percent rise in unique visitors between July 2011 and July 2012, reaching 26.9 million uniques in July. Those are desktop visits, and smartphone traffic is also up. ComScore says Tumblr had 6.7 million smartphone visitors in July, a 51 percent gain over only five months. And it's not just the social element driving those gains. According to comScore, search traffic to Tumblr has skyrocketed over the past [...]

Social Network Demographics: Pew Study Shows Who Uses Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest & Others

social-media-network-people There are stereotypes attached to certain social networks about the makeup of their user base. LinkedIn is for business people. Facebook has a lot of older Americans. Pinterest is for girls. That's the conventional wisdom. (And just this week, a local friend of mine -- a guy -- gave me a hard time when he found that I have a Pinterest account. I'm very comfortable with that.) But are the stereotypes true? In a report issued this week that's ostensibly about social photo/video sharing activities, the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project also shared its latest social n [...]

Tumblr Debuts In ComScore’s Top 50 Web Properties

tumblr-logo Here's another sign of Tumblr's growth: The blogging network/platform has cracked comScore's chart of the Top 50 U.S. web properties for the first time. ComScore's April 2012 report credits Tumblr with 23.5 million visitors during the month, which is good enough for No. 47 on the list. As you can see on the full chart below, that still leaves it behind sites like Netflix and MySpace (Nos. 41 and 42, respectively), but ahead of retail giant Target. Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Facebook and AOL comprise the top five, just as they did in March (and for some time before that, as I recall). Her [...]

For Social Success, Post To Twitter & Facebook In Early Afternoons, Tumblr In Evenings

social-media-clock-featured When's the best time to post to social media platforms to ensure your content is most seen? URL shortening service Bitly has crunched some new numbers. Success on Twitter and Facebook means posting in the early afternoons, while Tumblr likes the night life. Bitly looked at the amount of clicks that links posted through its service generated on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr (sorry, Google+, you got left out). It also looked at when these sites seemed to have the most activity overall. Bitly even generated fancy looking plots of clicks and activity, like this: I found it easier, howe [...]

Every Major League Baseball Team Is Using Pinterest (Google+ and Tumblr, Too)

pinterest-baseball-featured Despite its reputation as a female-dominated social network -- or perhaps because of that? -- every team in Major League Baseball is now actively using Pinterest. All 30 MLB teams also have official pages on Google+ and officials blogs on Tumblr. And the league itself also has an official presence on all three social networks. The league and all of its teams have already been active on Facebook and Twitter for some time now, but only recently expanded its collective social media footprint to Pinterest, Google+ and Tumblr. The league has created a "social media clubhouse" at MLB.com/co [...]

Why We Are On Tumblr

tumblr_on_blue_small We recently launched our Marketing Land and Search Engine Land accounts on Tumblr. We've been quietly developing them this month, familiarizing ourselves with the platform in terms of how to post, what to post, who to follow and ultimately defining why we should be there in the first place. If you've been thinking the same, perhaps our story will be of interest. Why Tumblr? Here's a response to launching our accounts after we announced them on Facebook: If we attract 12 year-olds to the world of search or internet marketing, that's not a bad thing. But no, that's not why. So what is o [...]
