twitter-grab Twitter's redesigned profile pages are now available for everyone. To activate the new feature, sign on to Twitter and click the "Take a Look" button in the banner that should appear at the top of your screen. After you've made the switch, you'll notice an enhanced landing area for desktop users who visit your profile. The redesign, which Twitter previewed and applied to selected users earlier this month is being seen as an at [...]

Twitter’s MoPub Will Open Its Native Ad Market For Apps Tomorrow

mopub Twitter continues to go native. Today it announced that its native ad product for mobile apps, in testing since Twitter's $350 million acquisition of MoPub in December, will be rolled out globally on Wednesday. The product offers app developers the ability to create native ads for their own apps, an ad server to push ad campaigns into native inventory and an extension into OpenRTB that allows other publishers to bid on the ad units. Twitter has long been a proponent of native ads. Promoted tweets are a prime example of the ad form, in which ads are designed to look and feel like standard [...]

Twitter Expands Mobile Ad Offering With App Install Ads & New Twitter Publisher Network

twitter-advertising-featured Nearly 6 months ago, Twitter purchased mobile ad startup MoPub for a reported $350M to help bolster their overall mobile offerings. Today, Twitter is making good use of this acquisition with the launch of a new mobile app promotion suite and the announcement of the Twitter Publisher Network. The new suite not only follows suit with Facebook-like App Ads for Installs, but also helps promotes apps outside of Twitter thanks to the MoPub network. The mobile app promotion suite consists of targeting, creative and measurement tools to help push mobile apps. Right now this is in private be [...]

Twitter UK Creates #OwnTheMoment Tool To Help Real-Time Marketers

#OwnTheMoment 2014-04-15 12-15-53 2014-04-15 12-17-30 Whether you call it real-time marketing, newsjacking or joining the conversation surrounding a news event, marketers are looking for opportunities to insert their brands into online banter about current events. Typically, the successful examples, like Oreo's tweet during the 2013 Super Bowl blackout or Arby's shout out to Pharrell Williams and his hat during the 2014 Grammy's, can be traced back to smart advance planning. To help with that task, Twitter recommends creating a detailed editorial calendar, and its United Kingdom and Ireland small and medium business team has created an inte [...]

perfect-audience-icon Perfect Audience launched in 2012 to offer self-serve solutions that allow mid-tier marketers to manage their own retargeting campaigns. Twitter Doubles Down On Data By Acquiring Gnip, One Of Its Longtime Firehose Partners

gnip Twitter is bringing one of its Firehose providers in-house, announcing today that it has acquired Gnip, a longtime partner that sells social media data to companies seeking information about consumers and their behavior. The move is seen as a indication that Twitter is looking to extract more revenue from its data. Previously, the company has left it to a limited group of third-party companies, such as Gnip, to manage the organization and reselling of Twitter data. According to its SEC filing last year, Twitter made $47 million selling that data, about 10% of its total revenue. Bould [...]

Report: Priceline CEO Says Twitter And Facebook Ads Don’t Drive Results

hdr_negotiator Priceline CEO Darren Huston, who presides over one of the biggest spenders on online advertising, says Twitter and Facebook ads aren't effective for the travel site. “For Facebook and Twitter, we have endless amounts of money,” Huston told Bloomberg today. “But we haven’t found anything there.” Priceline's online marketing costs were $1.8 billion last year, according to Bloomberg, and the great majority of its advertising dollars are spent on Google ads. Those keyword targeted ads are more effective in drawing reservation-making customers. Facebook and Twitter's ad products hav [...]

U.S. Airways Deletes, Apologizes After A Pornographic Reply On Twitter

shutterstock_167343158 Routine social media customer service turned into a not-safe-for-work nightmare today for U.S. Airways. During an exchange with a disgruntled customer, the company's Twitter account replied with a link to a pornographic twitpic image. Although the tweet was a reply and therefore didn't appear on the timeline of all @USAirways' 418,000 followers, it was sensational enough to pick up serious viral steam. The tweet, which was deleted within the hour, was up long enough for countless screen-grab opportunities and Deadspin, and other chroniclers of Internet mayhem, quickly followed up with po [...]

The notifications will be fully interactive; users will be able to reply, favorite, RT and follow from the notification. Read more on the Twitter blog. [...]

Twitter And Facebook Declare #MarchMadness Victories

twitter-ncaa-peak-moments Did anyone win March Madness? No question, Shabazz Napier and his Connecticut teammates were the ones cutting down the nets after holding off Kentucky for the NCAA men's basketball championship. But when it comes to the battle for big event social media supremacy, the clock is still running and the major players are battling for position. Twitter and Facebook each posted social tales-of-the-tape today, touting high activity related to the three-week celebration of hoops. Each social network focused on different metrics, so it's not possible to declare a victor. Still it's instructive [...]

With Cover Buy Twitter Joins Battle Of Android Homescreens

Cover acquired by Twitter First there was Facebook Home, then Yahoo with Aviate and now Twitter with Cover. Cover is another Android launcher or intelligent homescreen. Yesterday Cover announced it was being acquired by Twitter. Terms weren't disclosed. Cover says it will be business as usual, at least for the time being. Like Aviate, Cover will show different apps in different locations, at different times of day. It's a personalization tool essentially. It's possible that the Cover team will be deployed to create more personalization and contextually relevant experiences on Twitter for mobile devices general [...]

Huge Header Images, Pinned Tweets & Better Filters Highlight Twitter’s New Profile Design

twitter-new-profile-600 Last month we found out that one of the biggest reasons that folks quit Twitter is due to the lack of sorting, filtering and media. Today Twitter has announced new profile pages that should curtail concerns thanks to a handful of bold new features. The most noticeable change is the colossal profile header picture that spans full width across the monitor. While users may notice the header first, some of the biggest functionality that will appease users falls beneath. New profiles will allow users to pin Tweets to the top of the page, something that disrupts the chronological timeline for the [...]

Report: Twitter Is Gearing Up For A Major Advertising Push

Twitter For Business Twitter is preparing a major upgrade to its advertising offerings according to a story in the Wall Street Journal today. The Journal reported that Twitter will introduce 15 types of new ad products in the next six months. First up in the next few weeks -- and already visible for some Twitter users (see screen grab) -- is an ad unit that sends users who click directly to Google or Apple app markets. Facebook has offered similar "app install" ads since 2012, and, according to the Journal, Facebook users downloaded 245 million mobile apps last year after clicking on the ads in their News F [...]

Emojis For All! Twitter Emojis Make Their Web Debut

Twitter-Support Until today, it's been a bit of a sad experience for web-only Twitter users. While these users have been viewing Tweets on their large monitors they've been missing some crucial context in Tweets -- the emojis. While mobile users were able to visually express their feelings with emojis, web users would have no context, and would simply see a square box ✨ .   Thankfully, this week Twitter has announced they now support the use of emojis on the web client. Until this point, there was no real reason for brands and marketers to use emojis as the square box for web users typically [...]

Did Samsung Go Too Far With Big Papi-President Obama Selfie?

ortiz-obama-selfie-600 Samsung's aggressive celebrity social media marketing strategy took a bit of a hit this week when the White House recoiled after learning that the selfie Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz took with President Barack Obama had promotional strings attached. Ortiz, the 2013 World Series MVP, snapped the picture with a Galaxy Note 3 on Tuesday during the Red Sox visit to the White House, and posted it on Twitter, where he has 636,000 followers. Someone -- looking at video, it doesn't appear to be Ortiz -- said "Cha-ching" as Big Papi took the shot. The tweet has been retweeted more than [...]

Vine Adds Private Messaging To Vine Friends And Other Contacts

vine Vine, Twitter's six-second video sharing app, added the ability to send private messages today: From Vine’s early days, we recognized that there was a growing desire and need for private messaging on Vine. We’ve watched the community come up with some clever ways to send videos to their friends as we’ve been working on this solution. Now you can privately send Vine videos and text messages to your friends. You can even send videos to anyone in your address book, even if they aren’t on Vine. With the update, available on iOS 6+ and Android 4.0+ devices, Vine pushes further into Sn [...]

Survey Shows Twitter Users Find Ads On The Network Irrelevant, Random

twitter-app-600 Twitter's efforts to increase its user base and to encourage users to spend more time on the service are well documented and widely seen as crucial for the company as it works to extract value from the post-IPO social network. Last week, Deutsche-Bank released a largely bullish report (PDF) recommending that investors buy Twitter stock, based on a survey of 1,100 residents of the United States. As we reported last week, the survey showed that many people who leave Twitter were overwhelmed by the stream of information in their feeds but would consider returning if there were better [...]

Twitter’s Advanced Search Now Comes With Easier Access To Date Range

Twitter Advanced Search Twitter's powerful -- and underused -- Advanced Search feature has added date-range fields. Now if you are looking for tweets during a certain time period, there's a quick and easy way to narrow down your search. Previously, such searches required users to use arcane coding -- since:2014-02-03 until:2014-04-01 -- in the search box. It's a small step but it clearly is in keeping with Twitter's recent efforts to simplify its product. [...]

You Can’t Own What You Don’t Pay For (In Social Media)

social-network-data-featured There's been a lot of discussion recently about ongoing changes that Facebook is making to its Newsfeed algorithms and how those tweaks impact brands. Notably, there was the release of a paper by PR agency Ogilvy discussing the notion of "Facebook Zero" and its potential implications, whilst food delivery start-up Eat24, in a more concrete and immediate move, posted a breakup note to Facebook, blaming the same changes. Whilst Eat 24's note, which ends with a threat/promise to delete its Facebook page (it should be gone by the time you read this), it's amusing in a snarky kind of way [...]

In Response To #CancelColbert, Stephen Colbert Closes “Colbert Report” Twitter Account

It was one of the strangest things I've seen related to Twitter on TV. The host of a popular comedy show killing his show's Twitter account with the help of a Twitter founder. But that's what Stephen Colbert did with Twitter founder Biz Stone on Monday's show, and the Colbert Report's account is now gone. Perhaps it will turn out to be some strange April Fool's prank. But I don't think so. The segment happened after Colbert responded to concerns about the #CancelColbert campaign that started on Thursday, where a joke he made was tweeted out of context, offending some who felt it was offensi [...]
