Social media isn't solely about direct social results. There are many places on your website where social media may improve your search engine optimization (SEO) while helping your business grow its online presence. No SEO strategy can guarantee results, but these tips can help ensure that you have all the bases covered to take full advantage of the available opportunities. Alt Tags For Icons Alt tags for images are sometimes overlooked by website marketing managers, who are so focused on meta tags or the content of the site, that they forget the benefit other meta tags can bring. Twitter Cards: How Savvy Marketers Get More Out Of Twitter

Although Twitter has been around for a long time, there are still many people who do not know what Twitter Cards are. Well, good news everyone: by the time you are finished reading this post, you will! Let me start out with a comparison. For Google, there are meta tags, for Facebook, there are Open Graph tags, and for Twitter, there are Twitter Cards. Twitter’s “Tailored Suggestions” Will Use Widget & Button Data To Make Better Recommendations

Currently new Twitter users visit the site and are all recommended nearly the same accounts to follow.  This will soon be changing thanks to new "tailored suggestions."  So not everyone will be advised to follow Justin Bieber, Katy Perry or one of the Kardashians.  The new functionality will match up top accounts with information collected from the user.  So those that like sports might not have Paris Hilton recommended to them. When displaying the list of tailored suggestions, a list of tweets from the accounts can be viewed to provide a better sampler platter for the user: Cu [...]

Google+ Simplifies Follower Counts, But Confusion Remains

Did you miss it? Part of this week's changes to Google+ was the debut of a new figure combining +1 counts and followers for brand pages. It's nice, but it still doesn't rectify problems with how Google+ badges are displayed and used. Counting +1's My earlier article, The Broken Follower Counts & Confusing Buttons Of Google+, looked in detail at how, until this week, Google+ Pages featured a confusing count of +1's that a brand had received, based on: +1′s of the brand’s Google+ page +1′s of ads that the brand runs +1′s of the brand’s web site home page This count di [...]

New Twitter Button Updates Disrupts Sharing From Websites

When the new Twitter updates were announced last week website owners and publishers were assured: no action was needed. However we noticed here that the new Twitter buttons were not passing in the extra parameters when used on our sites. Apparently they were all impacted by this bug: It initially affected all of our posts and on all of our sites, but our development team corrected (for the majority of them) by changing our "related" parameter which had an apostrophe in the text - so that most will work. You will note however, that if you attempt to share a post that has an apostroph [...]

Embeddable Tweets: Add Single Tweets To Any Web Page & Skip The Screenshots

In addition to launching brand pages, updating its user interface and tweaking its button set, Twitter has also launched embeddable Tweets -- a tool that makes it brain-dead simple to add tweets to any web page without the hassle of making screenshots. As Twitter explains on its developers' blog: Today, we're introducing embeddable Tweets, a new way to add any Tweet to your website just by copying and pasting a line of code. Your website visitors will see a Tweet that focuses on the content by surfacing the conversation and media. Visitors can follow the author with a single-click, and rep [...]

Twitter Updates ‘Tweet’ & ‘Follow’ Buttons

Today the familiar light blue 'tweet' and 'follow' buttons have been updated and de-saturated. This change has been rolled out for all types and sizes of buttons and are automatically updated if you have the buttons installed. The old tweet buttons displayed both the Tweet button and the tweet count in blue: And the new button only features the Twitter logo in color: The recently added "follow" buttons previously featured an actual button with the Twitter handle outside of the box and the follower count to the right: Now, the full Twitter handle is located inside the [...]
