Vine Introduces Loop Counts To Show How Many Times A Video Has Been Viewed

vine-loops Twitter's six-second video platform Vine was updated today to include "loop counts" to show how many times videos have been viewed on the network. Loop counts are visible on the desktop version of the site and on updated iOS and Android apps that are being released today. The updated mobile apps also feature a new design, "offering you bigger edge-to-edge videos and a cleaner view of likes and comments," according a post on Vine's blog. Because Vine started compiling loop data on April 3, videos created before that date will display a "+" next to the loop count to show that the actua [...]

A Brand new world of TOYOTA-small Toyota prides itself for next-generation thinking. So it's no surprise that the car company that brought the hybrid automobile to the masses has turned to children for a creative marketing campaign. Kids draw the darndest things? They do, indeed. And since 2004 when Toyota started its annual Dream Car Art Contest, youngsters from around the world have responded resoundingly, drawing and entering more than 660,000 pictures of their dream car of the future. This year, Toyota is putting the car art into motion. It has partnered with creative agency Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon Tokyo [...]

Twitter Tests A Super Simple Video Sharing Feature For iOS

twitter-logo-600 Who said sharing video has to be tricky? A new test spotted by Peter Kafka at re/code found the ability for iOS users to include pre-selected video clips if they were using hashtags around the upcoming movie "A Million Ways To Die In The West." If a user enters (or begins to enter) the hashtag of the movie name, they are provided video clips form the official movie account @AMillionWays. If the users select the clip then can quickly watch it and "attach" to their Tweet. Like every other 140 character message, once the clip is attached, the user can customize the text in the Tweet to mat [...]

Vine Swings From Mobile To The Desktop (& Adds New Features)

vine-featured Vine lovers rejoice; you're no longer constrained to your mobile device for your daily 6-second video consumption. Users will now be able to consume your favorite 6-second videos on the desktop using Much like the move that Instagram made last year, Vine has officially become more than just an app. The site itself is beautifully designed, mixing videos directly in with functionality. On the left, the channels are displayed next to a Vine playlist. Underneath those elements, the page houses popular videos and featured videos by channel, along with featured Viners for more discov [...]

Vine Adds Private Messaging To Vine Friends And Other Contacts

vine Vine, Twitter's six-second video sharing app, added the ability to send private messages today: From Vine’s early days, we recognized that there was a growing desire and need for private messaging on Vine. We’ve watched the community come up with some clever ways to send videos to their friends as we’ve been working on this solution. Now you can privately send Vine videos and text messages to your friends. You can even send videos to anyone in your address book, even if they aren’t on Vine. With the update, available on iOS 6+ and Android 4.0+ devices, Vine pushes further into Sn [...]

Lowe’s “Fix In Six” Vine Campaign Wins O’TooleBox Advertising Award

lowes-store-600 Last night, home improvement retailer Lowe's won an O'TooleBox Award for its "Fix in Six" Vine campaign. Created by BBDO New York, the Lowe's campaign answered the question "How can we help people improve their homes in just six seconds?" Lowe's explained the inspiration for the campaign on its Vine Fix in Six website: In the first campaign of its kind, we used Vine as a way to bring useful home improvement tips to life. Using stop-motion animation techniques, we created over 50 six-second films that were as entertaining as they were useful. We called it "Lowe’s Fix in Six". The seri [...]

Twitter & Vine To Hit The Big Screen This Summer

twitter-tv-video-featured Earlier this week, National CineMedia (NCM) announced a deal with Twitter to produce one-minute weekly shows highlighting trending movie and entertainment Tweets and Vine videos. Scheduled to start the middle of this year, the shows will be screened in NCM theaters across the county. NCM says moviegoers will be encouraged to take part in the social media conversations happening on its theater screens: Through hashtags, fans will be able to share their thoughts on movies and may even see their own Tweets and Vines up on the silver screen alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood. [...]

Vine Launches Profile Pages, Adds “TV Mode” Viewing

vine-icon Just a couple weeks after taking reservations for profile URLs, Vine has rolled out profile pages for all of its users. This is a welcome move for anyone that uses Vine, but especially for brands that have been successful -- or want to be successful -- in using the six-second video platform to grow an audience. The profile pages now give anyone an easy way to see all of a brand's videos in one place, get embed codes and other sharing options, start to follow the brands, etc. Users can also leave comments on videos right from the profile page. Strangely, commenting still isn't possibl [...]

Vine Username Reservations Open For Verified Twitter Accounts (And Maybe Anyone?)

vine-featured Vine is finally taking the needed step of creating profile pages and giving its users the chance to reserve a permanent username/URL. I say "needed" because there's currently no way to see all of an account's Vine videos easily. So for brands (and individuals) that have been doing clever things with the six-second videos, there's been no way to point users to a Vine account page to browse through archives, get old video URLs or embed codes, etc. That will presumably change when the reservation process ends and Vine rolls out profile pages at the addresses. The form launc [...]

The Year Of Beauty Sketches & Camels: Unruly Releases Top 20 Most Shared Ads Of 2013

gone-viral-featured Video marketing company Unruly has already released its top 20 most shared ads for 2013. Based on the number of Facebook, Twitter and blogosphere shares, Unruly says the most viral ad this year was the Dove Beauty Sketches ad with 4.24 million shares since its release in April. According to Unruly, not only is the Dove Beauty Sketches ad the most shared ad for 2013, it is the most viewed video ad of all time. Following the Dove ad, Geico's Hump Day ad ranked second with 4.03 million shares and Evia [...]

Vine Users Can Now Edit Videos & Work On More Than One At A Time

vine-featured Brands that use Vine are sure to be happy with the two small feature updates that Vine announced today -- the ability to edit videos before they're posted and the ability to manage more than one in-progress video over time. Vine is calling the updates "Sessions" and "Time Travel." Sessions is the one that lets users save any video and return to it later. You can do this with up to 10 videos at once via a new button in the lower right corner of the app's UI. I'm thinking that feature alone should open the doors to a lot of creativity from brands and marketers. Time Travel is a bit m [...]

Twitter: No Current Plans To Put Ads On Vine, #Music Apps

While there's a lot of talk today about how Twitter will need to dial up its advertising revenues as a public company, there are a couple places the company says that won't happen: its Vine and #Music apps. Buried inside the Table Of Contents of Twitter's S-1 filing Thursday is this description of Vine and the mention of ads (which I'll emphasize in bold): Vine is a mobile application available on the iOS and Android operating systems that enables users to create and distribute short looping videos of up to six seconds in length. Vine users create and distribute their videos to their fol [...]

Dunkin Donuts, Trident Gum Turn Vine Videos Into TV Commercials

vine-dunkin-featured Two major brands -- Dunkin Donuts and Trident Gum -- tapped Vine this week to create and air new television commercials. Dunkin Donuts ran its spot on ESPN during the network's Monday Night Football. The first Vine-based commercial, which I missed, ran for five seconds at the end of the pregame show and reportedly showed a latte flipping a coin to signify the start of a football game. It was timed to coincide with the switch from pregame show to game coverage, and Dunkin Donuts will be repeating that plan in future ESPN Monday Night Football broadcasts, too. Later, during the game itself [...]

Vine Grows To 40 Million Registered Users, More Than Tripling Its User Base Since June

vine-featured After only seven months since Twitter acquired Vine, the six-second video sharing app has reached an impressive 40 million registered users, more than three times the number of Vine users reported just two months ago. While this milestone does not reflect "monthly active user" numbers commonly shared by social networks like Facebook and Twitter, it does confirm that Vine is a competitive force within the social media landscape. In June, Twitter reported that there were a total of 13 million iOS users on Vine when it released the Android version of the app. So it appears that Android user [...]

Vine’s First Hit: A Year-Old Rap Song Climbs Billboard Charts After Unofficial Video

A Vine video is being credited for helping a year-old rap song sell more than 100,000 downloads in the last two weeks, pushing it into the top five on Billboard's chart of the top R&B/Hip-Hop digital songs. It's believed to be the first time a Vine video has had such a significant role in driving music sales. As is reporting, the song "Don't Drop That Thun Thun" by a Los Angeles-based group called FiNATTiCZ saw a sales spike shortly after this unofficial Vine clip -- which has been tweeted more than 13,000 times at the moment -- was published on July 9th. (Note: The Vine [...]

This Week On Vine: The Bieber Effect, Celebrating Wimbledon & Celebrity Crossovers

We’ve been keeping a secret. The fact is, each week the most popular Vines by a wide margin are coming from athletes, pop stars and brands with tie-ins to those folks. Singing celebrities like Little Mix or Harry Styles can do anything or nearly nothing at all and still have their Vine’s share count reach five figures. Hordes of Beliebers descended on the Omaha mall to catch a glimpse of Justin Beiber. Sadly, the official JC Penney account seemed not to notice that their outlet was featured prominently in a Vine that was shared nearly 45k times. #omahamall [...]

Nissan Will Tap Instagram & Vine Videos For Upcoming TV Commercial

Nissan Brand Logo Never mind the Instagram vs. Vine debate. For Nissan, it's Instagram AND Vine. The automaker has announced the "Your Door to More" contest, which gives Nissan fans a chance to help the company promote the 2014 Nissan Versa Note automobile. They'll do that by visiting and downloading a cut-out "kit," then using either one of the 2D photos or the small cardboard 3D version of the car to make Instagram or Vine videos. Here's one of the earliest entries we've seen on Vine: Three Grand Prize winners may have their videos featured in a Nissan TV commercial later this [...]

Vine For Android Gets Quick Capture Widget, Revining & Channels & More

vine-icon As the arms race between Instagram and Vine wages on, one clear cut winner has emerged. Users. A new Android update brings all the features from the large iOS update earlier this month. Also new (and unique!) to Android: capture widget. Launch the camera and start recording right from your home screen. — Vine (@vineapp) July 11, 2013   Vine stumbled out of the gate with Android users as it launched as an iOS only app. A new update however offers Android users features that Apple users are lacking. A new capture widget can be added to the homescreen in [...]

Big Vine Update Includes Re-Vining, Protected Posts, Improved Camera & More

vine-icon Vine has started to rollout several of its promised upgrades as it finds itself in a battle with Instagram for social video supremacy. It's also introduced a new word into the lexicon: revining, which is explained below. At least a couple of the new features could help increase visibility for both Vine users and their best videos. Today's update includes these five items, as explained on Vine's blog post: Revining: Share other people's posts with your all of your followers in one tap. Protected Posts: Most Vine posts are public, which means they can be viewed, discovered and shared [...]

Topsy: Instagram Shares Easily Beat Vine On Twitter, Unless You’re Talking About “Influencers”

topsy-instagram-vine-featured Instagram has regained supremacy over Vine on Twitter, thanks to its new video feature? That seemed to be the story, based on stats from Topsy. But now, Topsy has clarified there's a different story, one where Instagram shares on Twitter have never dipped below Vine, at least when you're looking at all activity rather than just "influencer" activity. Vine Beat Instagram? We probably helped kick off the whole "Is Vine bigger than Instagram?" news cycle three weeks ago, when we reported that there was more sharing of Vine on Twitter than Instagram. Here's the chart we showed then: That [...]
