When asked why they use Yelp, 82 percent said they typically visit Yelp because they intend to buy a product or service. Yelp Advertisers Now Able To Promote Transactions Directly From Yelp Business Listings

Yelp Starts Selling Display Ads In Its Mobile App

yelp icon Yelp is now selling display ads in its mobile apps, with two advertisers -- Taco Bell and InterContinental Hotels Groups (IHG) as the first two advertisers to give it a try. According to Ad Age, those two companies will have exclusivity for the month of March in their respective categories -- Taco Bell for restaurant-related searches and IHG for travel-related searches. Yelp Reports 65 Percent Revenue Growth But Bigger Than Expected Loss

Yelp revenues Yelp earnings this afternoon were a mixed bag (as they say), with strong revenue growth but a larger-than-expected loss. Revenue was $41.2 million in Q4, a 65 percent increase vs. a year ago. The company also posted a loss of $5.3 million in the fourth quarter. Revenue for the full year was $137.6 million, which represented an increase of 65 percent vs. $83.3 million last year.  Shares are down slightly in after-hours trading after rising throughout the day. Yelp: 45 Percent Of Searches Come From Our Mobile Apps

Yelp formally reported Q3 earnings this afternoon. Last week the company announced preliminary third quarter results along with the acquisition of one of its largest European rivals, Qype, for $50 million. Yelp said it earned quarterly net revenue of $36.4 million, which was 63 percent greater than the previous Q3 in 2011. Net revenue for the nine months through the end of September was $96.4 million, 65 percent better than a year go. Yelp Launching New Home Page Design

yelp-logo Yelp has started to roll out a new home page -- one that focuses more on user activity and the social aspects of the site, rather than search and discovery of local businesses. The new design very prominently features photos, tips and other activity in the user's local area. Yelp Opens First International Sales Office In London

yelp icon Yelp's international growth took another step today with the opening of its first ad sales office outside the U.S. Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, was on hand for the announcement, which the company says will involve more than 100 new advertising and marketing jobs. Yelp Reports $27 Million In Quarterly Revenue But Higher Loss

yelp-featured Yelp is growing and that's reflected in their numbers for Q1, 2012. The company said that it made $27.4 million in revenue for the quarter, which represented 66 percent growth vs a year ago. However its net loss was more than 3X the loss a year ago ($9.8 million vs. $2.8 million) based on international expansion and investments in sales headcount. Yelp is now in 80 markets (cities) globally, having launched 11 new markets in Q1. In addition, there now 27.6 million reviews on Yelp. Account owners can now see organic traffic over 30 day, one year and two year periods. They also can see how many times they showed up in search results. Mobile traffic is also broken out.
