Microsoft reports $22.6B in revenue for Q4, reaching $92B for its 2016 fiscal year

CEO Satya Nadella says Microsoft is "well positioned" for new opportunities in the coming year.

Microsoft has released its latest earnings report, announcing $22.6 billion in revenue for Q4 2016 and reaching $92 billion for its fiscal year that ended June 30, 2016.

According to the report, Microsoft’s Productivity and Business Processes generated $7 billion in revenue during Q4, with Office commercial products and cloud services up five percent, Office consumer products and cloud services up 19 percent and Dynamics products and cloud services up six percent.

“The Microsoft Cloud is seeing significant customer momentum and we’re well positioned to reach new opportunities in the year ahead,” said CEO Satya Nadella.

With the help of Windows 10 usage, Microsoft’s search advertising revenue increased 16 percent.

Office 365 consumer subscribers reached 23.1 million, and the number of Dynamics CRM Online paid seats more than than doubled year over year. Also up was Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud revenue — climbing seven percent in the final quarter of its fiscal year to reach $6.7 billion.

Microsoft reports its Azure revenue grew 102 percent, with Azure usage more than doubling year over year.

While Microsoft’s Surface revenue was up nine percent (driven by Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book), phone revenue was down 71 percent. For XBox Live, monthly active users grew 33 percent year over year to reach 49 million.

Microsoft’s Chief Financial Officer, Amy Hood, said the company spent the past year investing in innovation and expanding its market presence in product areas and geographically.

“I am pleased with the execution from our sales teams and partners this quarter who delivered a strong finish to the fiscal year,” said Hood.
