Overall 15 percent of online adults say they use Twitter, with 8 percent doing so daily. That compares with 13 percent who reported being Twitter users last year.

Yet the number of daily Twitter users has doubled since May 2011 and quadrupled since Pew began doing surveys about Twitter in 2010. Pew attributes this increase in daily usage in part to the rise of smartphones.
