Post Targeting For Facebook Pages Gets More Powerful With New Options

Until today Facebook Page posts could only be targeted to specific locations or languages. Facebook has now released new targeting options that allow admins to target by demographics, interests and more.

The new page targeting options include:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Interested In
  • Relationship Status
  • Language
  • Education
  • Workplace
  • Location

The new targeting will allow admins to mold their messaging in a format more favorable to specific subsets of fans. Let’s say that you admin the Facebook page for the 2012 Olympic games.  You may now decide to message out more basketball updates to those interested in the NBA or NBA teams.  Are you a jeweler? Well target posts about engagement product posts to only those in relationships. If you do mainly B2B, assigning messages by workplace can allow you to offer different pricing or exclusive products to a specific company.

Facebook also stated:

This will allow advertisers to more efficiently reach the right fans and increase the relevancy for people when they see Page posts in their News Feed, which overalls leads to increases in engagement rates for Page posts.

Look for targeted messaging to lead to higher reach as well as increased engagement for Pages.
