Facebook Groups have slowly been revived as a useful tool, especially for schools.  Both groups for schools and group attachments were launched earlier this year.  Each of these enhancements stepped up the value of Facebook for use in group projects, clubs and more.  Today Facebook announced the launch of read receipts within groups, a feature that should help groups out even more.

Now when a message is posted, users will be able to see just how many people saw the post and more importantly, who didn’t.  This feature will confirm delivery to ensure that no important information was missed.   So the next time that one group member blames the fact that they didn’t see the update, you can disagree with empirical evidence.

Techcrunch asked Facebook about the possibility of rolling this feature out for all posts.  The official Facebook response was:

“not going to discuss what we might (or might not) do in the future.”
