Twitter has just announced that it has moved its tweet box on the Twitter web site to the top of timelines, something it says will make it easier to tweet.

Twitter shared the news appropriately enough in a tweet:

Previously, Twitter had put the tweet box to the left-side of the page, as you can see in this screenshot from when Twitter announced a redesign of its desktop site in January:

Now here’s how the tweet box has been relocated to the top of timelines, in an example from my own account:

Twitter new tweet box

Mashable noted that the change makes Twitter’s box similar to how Facebook does things, and this is true:

Facebook box

Twitter has even changed the text in the box to be more invitational, like Facebook. At Facebook, it asks, “What’s on your mind.” Previously, Twitter had the fairly boring and unfriendly “Compose new tweet” message. Now it’s chatty: “What’s happening?”
