Good morning, do you send text communications to your consumers?

Cloud communications platform Twilio released a new study Thursday, which found that consumers prefer email and text when talking to brands – despite a wide selection of available channels. The survey, which includes responses from 2,500 global consumers, also concluded that despite negative consumer sentiment toward how businesses approach communications, they are more likely to reward businesses that adhere to their preferred channels.

Facebook has announced it will be formally rolling out WhatsApp Catalogs for small businesses, after first mentioning it at the company’s F8 conference in April earlier this year. Catalogs allows businesses on WhatsApp to showcase products and services and share them with customers via the app’s messaging function. Consumers can also discover businesses and see and browse products directly on the business profile. The product is launching in selected markets – including Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, UK and the U.S. – with more countries coming soon.

Salesforce launched a new content management platform on Thursday, dubbed the Salesforce Content Management System. By entering the CMS space, Salesforce aims to give content marketing teams a tool anyone can use and is capable of creating personalized content powered by Salesforce CRM data. Salesforce calls it a “hybrid” CMS, meaning users can create, manage and deliver content on the platform, and then distribute to other digital platforms not powered by Salesforce by using the company’s Experience Builder or Commerce Page designer tools.

Pro Tip

Survive the holiday email slog with your own personal touch

“Don’t be just a cog in the wheel of your organization’s deployment of campaigns to make a buck. Be the wheel, the one that drives the gears that move your program forward,” encourages Ryan Phelan of Origin Email. “Try to find one campaign a week to put your mark on. For instance, look for a trigger where you can change the text to reflect the season. Or consider an automation that you’ve always wanted to do. The goal is to choose a campaign that can give you a good sense of impact thanks to high seasonal traffic.”

Ad tech trends 2019: Amazon chips away at the duopoly

Our ad tech trends roundup of 2019 shows that digital ad spend in the U.S. has been dominated by the Google and Facebook duopoly. Amazon, at 7% share, is the only seller to break out from the pack of would-be challengers. Amazon this year released a number of improvements to its ad-buying interfaces, such as improving the usability of its DSP, extending the reach of Sponsored Products, adding a rewards program tool, incorporating customer acquisition metrics and enabling dynamic bidding for Sponsored Products ads.

However, even as Amazon continues to build up its advertising product, as well as the new mobile, over-the-top (OTT) and connected TV ad inventory entering the space in the coming year, the Facebook/Google duopoly will likely continue to dominate into 2020.
